Welcome...
Brighten up your winter season with festive florals!
…to the very first edition of Good News - Good Moves’ very own property magazine! We’re delighted to be presenting our debut issue to the local community and in light of our launch we’ve got an action-packed first issue or you!
Nestled in the heart of Woolton Village, Ellie Benson Flowers offers bespoke floral arrangements tailored to your requirements and suitable for all occasions.
This month’s unveiling is somewhat of a double whammy for us here at Good Moves as we’re not only celebrating introducing the birth of our very first edition to the public but we’re further celebrating ONE WHOLE YEAR of being in our flagship office in Woolton Village! How time flies! It doesn’t feel like just under 12 months ago we were pondering over the finishing touches for our corporate coloured décor from our smaller, shared premises just a stone’s throw away – the other side of Allerton road.
With a fabulous collection of fresh flowers and selection of vases and accessories, Ellie Benson’s offers stylish and sophisticated designs at affordable prices. From classic and intricate handmade displays, to extravagant and flamboyant bouquets; this local gem caters for every occasion, including weddings, funerals and corporate events to boot.
What with a predominantly turbulent economic climate a not too distant memory for us all, Good Moves would like to take the time to thank everyone who’s supported us since our launch and in light of our fruitful first year, we hope you will all join us in toasting to many more!
If you are looking for the perfect Christmas garland/wreath for the festive period, hand crafted posies and bouquets for those special occasions into the New Year and spring, make sure you visit this professional and very friendly local specialist at their Allerton Road store.
Calling all Tenants! Looking to rent? We’re offering new readers an insert of our current lettings list (something we don’t usually provide, as the rental market moves so fast!) so act now, and get in touch with any member of our team to secure your interest early.
And don’t forget that special treat for your loved one on the 14th February - Valentine’s Day.
Look out for a word from our advertising sponsors, and keep your eyes peeled in respect of any upcoming local events in your area, we’re happy to work together with local businesses and are keen supporters of community projects so get in touch if there’s anything you feel may be worth a mention in our next issue!
Keep your eyes peeled for the store’s upcoming Loyalty scheme as monthly customers can expect rewards such as 15% discount in the New Year! To place an order contact Ellie on 0151 428 2199.
Bye for now!

Keynote Speakers ALISON McGOVERN Wirral South MP and Labour Party Member Alison has been a British Labour Party politician for Wirral South since 2010. She attended Wirral Grammar School before studying Philosophy at University College, London. Alison’s father was famous Liverpool songwriter, Peter McGovern and although some may expect that politics is not necessarily a natural pathway for someone from such creative roots, soon after graduating from university Alison began working as a researcher in the House of Commons. Following on from this Alison went on to handling communications for development projects with Network Rail, and then working for the Art Fund. Upon being elected to Parliament, Alison then became former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s parliamentary private secretary, making her the eyes and ears of one of the most important men in the country. In her time as an MP Alison has led many important campaigns and been involved in significant debates, such as on employment prospects for young people in the Wirral as well as Chairing a group responding to the serious conflict in Syria. @Alison_McGovern
NEIL ATKINSON Writer, Producer and Film Maker A writer, broadcaster and filmmaker by trade, Neil Atkinson is an incessantly busy man. Neil began working in the creative sector from having an interest in feature films, in fact his first creative production was picked up by the BBC. At the same time as his film writing career was taking off Neil had set up ‘The Spirit of Shankly’, an unofficial supporters union of Liverpool FC. It was through this “hobby” that Neil would meet with a gentleman called Andy Heaton, who was just starting an online magazine called The Anfield Wrap. Both Neil and Andy admit that The Anfield Wrap became much more popular than they both predicted, and we’re sure that if there are any reds (and maybe a few blues) in the audience they will be aware of their work. In his own words Neil now hosts The Anfield Wrap “which mostly involves running around Liverpool City Centre being late for things and then running his mouth off.” The Anfield Wrap is a multi-award winning podcasting platform which has shot to prominence across the UK’s online football community. Neil has such a unique hosting style that he consistently sits in the top ten of iTunes Sports podcasts. @Knox_Harrington
LIAM KELLY Director, Make Liverpool / Chair, Baltic Triangle Area Growing up in the Wirral, Liam’s passion is regeneration and has focussed this passion on Liverpool’s Creative and Digital community. In 2014 Liam co-founded a co-working and studio space within the Baltic Triangle. As a recognition of this hard work Liam was asked to join the Baltic Triange Area CIC as a director, acting now as their chairperson. Recently in 2016 Liam’s company Make Liverpool (set up with his sister Alex) expanded their operation to include a second site in Liverpool’s North Dock, now within the ‘Ten Street’s redevelopment zone. They are involved in the delivery of a number of projects supporting creatives in the making and manufacturing sectors with services, support and funds. Demonstrating that it is just as possible to achieve success in your working life, as in extra curricular pursuits, Liam supports the Ultimate Frisbee World Governing Body delivering coach education in countries such as Uganda and India. As a player Liam has won silver in the World Championships. @WordsFromLiam
ALIM KAMARA The Story Teller Alim is a talented rapper, storyteller and poet who came from humble beginnings in Sierra Leone but grew up in London where his drive to inspire was influenced by society and his African background. His lyrics and poetry content evokes empowerment and liberation. His music crosses all boundaries appealing to the masses, and his words flows delicately into the minds of the listener. Alim attended Middlesex University where he exceeded his expectations by not only graduated with a first class honours degree in creative and media writing, he also wrote the signature poem for the University (featured in the graduation materials 2007//08). Alim also received The Edna Fuller prize in recognition for being an outstanding student in English and allied subjects who made a significant contribution to the University. His passion for children has extended to founding an inspirational programme in his home village in Sierra Leone, which has transformed 600 lives in just 2 years. The programme A-Scholars aims to help children faced with limited education materials and impoverished well-being through motivational talks and also offers supplies for the daily functions of a school day. Alim’s audiences have described their visual and listening experience of his sessions, as beautiful, poetic and amazing. @alimKamara

Coinciding with Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day is a global celebration observed on 8 March every year. It is an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and girls, as well as highlight those areas where action is still needed to bring about equality. At Northern Schools Trust, we’re passionate about education and about empowering the next generation to support gender equality. International women’s day belongs to all groups collectively, everywhere and is a day for celebrating women’s progress from all backgrounds. We’re proud to be supporters of the STEM movement as STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in maths, engineering and science fields. On 8th March we gather at Make. Liverpool to celebrate women and female success across the city, joined by an array of expert speakers from varying sectors including science, health, engineering, business and beyond. Together, let’s continue to #PressForProgress
