CITY CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL SERVICES DURING PANDEMIC
residents and customers in accessing the same services they would if they were able to still physically visit Fayetteville City Hall.
by the City Council. Over the next several days, all City buildings were closed to the public, and residents and customers were directed to manage their accounts and access services online and over the phone.
Business is anything but usual these days as Fayetteville and the rest of the world respond to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, but all the City’s essential services are still running. Residents and customers are still being served, but in new and creative ways. Many employees from various departments continue to physically report to work, while others work remotely.
City personnel built new website pages to help the public understand the new changes and to get guidance on responding to the pandemic. The COVID-19 web page shares basic health and sanitary advice, and it directs users to state and national government pages that answer questions and keep them updated on the pandemic. There are links to several helpful pages from the Georgia Department of Public Health and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Over the last few years, our goal as a Leadership Team has been to have a website that serves as a virtual City Hall,” said City Manager Ray Gibson. “Gratefully, we were already well on our way to having most services available online, and we continually make improvements to enhance the user experience. “Over the last few weeks, we have worked hard to identify other services we can offer online since people can’t show up to City Hall in person,” Gibson continued. “I am especially grateful to our customer service representatives and other personnel, most of whom are working from home, who have adapted quickly to the changes and are continually doing their best to serve the public.”
FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Fayetteville Fire Department is in full response mode and still maintaining all essential duties. While the public is allowed to visit the fire stations, people are asked to call ahead and follow the guidance given by dispatchers. In emergencies, the public is reminded to always call 911. For non-emergencies, all Fayetteville and Fayette County residents are asked to call the E-911 Center’s non-emergency number, 770-461-HELP (4357). Dispatchers will ask questions to determine how best to offer the services requested.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Fayetteville Police Department is on the job providing public safety services, with all officers being categorized as essential workers, but they, too, have implemented changes in response to the pandemic. Roll call meetings at the beginning of each shift are now carried out remotely, and many other measures have been taken to ensure social distancing whenever possible. Laws are being enforced, of course, and ticketed offenders will be given court dates. Many standard police reports are now being offered remotely.
MUNICIPAL COURT
Fayetteville Municipal Court is temporarily closed to the public. Operations are being carried out by personnel working from home to offer services and information remotely. Court dates have been rescheduled. For a complete list of rescheduled court dates, visit the Court page on the City’s website.

EAGLE SCOUT PLANTS EDIBLE GARDEN AT CHURCH STREET PARK Boy Scout Sebastian Warner, with help from his troop and the community, has brought new life to a corner of Church Street Park. When the Fayetteville MOMS Club led renovations to Church Street Park over the last several years, one of the new features installed was a garden box section where members of the community were invited to claim a box and cultivate plants in it. Several boxes were planted in the early months, but interest faded, and so did the plants. Earlier this year, Troop 76 Eagle Scout candidate Sebastian Warner embarked on an Eagle Scout Service Project, which included refreshing those planters and setting a good many fruit-bearing plants into them. Warner is a Fayetteville resident and Fayette County High School senior. Giving back to his community made sense to Warner when it came time to choose his project. He says the community will enjoy the produce that will come from what he planted. Growing in the planters are a mix of blueberry bushes, fig trees and rosemary plants. Warner and his troop will look after the plants until they’re established, and the City of Fayetteville will provide long-term maintenance.

FAYETTEVILLE ADOPTS INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT TO REPAVE GRADY AVENUE AND REDWINE ROAD The Fayetteville City Council at their April 1 special-called teleconference meeting approved an Intergovernmental Agreement between Fayette County and the municipalities of Fayetteville, Peachtree City, and Tyrone to repave Grady Avenue and Beauregard Boulevard/Redwine Road within Fayetteville’s city limits. That amounts to about 3.17 miles of roadway. The project originated in 2017 as a Letter of Financial Commitment, which was included in the Atlanta Regional Commission Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) application submittal from the county and cities. The county and each municipality collectively listed 18.9 miles of roadway for the TIP, and Fayette County secured a pair of federal and state grants to help cover most of the engineering and construction costs. 10 - April 2020
The City’s financial commitment to repave Grady Avenue is a minimum of $75,083, while the grant will cover up to $182,710. The City will pay at least $185,548 for the Beauregard/Redwine repaving, and the grant will cover up to $477,503 for that roadway. The City’s portion of financial liability will be covered by receipts from the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The 2020 Concert Series lineup has been announced for the Brightmoor-Southern Ground Amphitheater, and the first performance, Grand Funk Railroad in concert, is set for Friday, May 29. The eight-event series continues June 19 with former Eagles band member Don Felder in concert, followed by Rodney Atkins on July 17 and Loverboy on July 24. Craig Morgan takes the stage on August 7, Ziggy Marley on August 15, and Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction on August 29. The series concludes in top form with Rick James’ Stone City Band on September 19. Eight-show ticket packages are on sale now through SouthernGroundAmp.com and the box office, 770-7194173. Pick-Five options are also available, but only through the box office. Considering the uncertainty brought about by the
coronavirus pandemic, the Brightmoor-Southern Ground Amphitheater has announced a liberal refund policy for the 2020 Concert Series. Any concert that is affected by the statewide shelter-in-place order will be rescheduled to a later date, and buyers can choose to come to the rescheduled date or receive a full refund. “We want people to look forward to these concerts and not have to worry,” said Fayetteville Downtown Development Director Brian Wismer. “We want them to feel safe with their ticket purchases.” In business since 2002, the Brightmoor-Southern Ground Amphitheater is owned by the Fayetteville Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association under the authority of the City of Fayetteville. The facility is a landmark performance venue on the south side of Atlanta and is available for private rental. For more information, call 770-719-4173.
