wrapping the fine polyester film on a book with handmade paper
RFID tag on fine polyester film
During the research programme, I participated in the process of excluding books from attaching the RFID tags. It was suggested by the conservators of the NLG to exclude books having valuable artistic bindings, handmade marbling papers or being in poor condition, to avoid damage caused by adhesive of tags. In these cases, they proposed to stick the tags on a fine polyester film (melinex), which is wrapped around the back cover of the book. In case of bindings with detached spines or friable covers, it was suggested to use a thin cotton tape to allow a temporary joint of fragments. Books in poor condition were placed in a plastic sleeve and the RFID tag was included without sticking it in the book. using thin cotton tape on a book with detached spine -14-
