FroM Your Pastor’s heart

jhenry@fbcfairhope.org What a joy to recognize our High School graduating Seniors! Each student is such a special gift and has a God-given purpose for his/her life. These were about four years old when I first came as pastor of First Baptist. It has been great to have baptized many of them and see their growth in the Lord. We send them out into the future to make a difference in this world for Christ. Congratulations Seniors! The end of May brings us to Memorial Day. Too little is said about this special day, but it is a holiday to be remembered. If you have ever been to Arlington National Cemetery, you have witnessed row after row of white crosses that show the graves of those who died for our country. Not only have people sacrificed their lives in the past, but we have people today who are on battlefields for us. Don’t forget on May 25 to pause and thank God for our freedom. Also, pray for the familes of those who have buried their loved ones. May God bless America and may we do all we can to make our country what God wants it to be. Summer activities will be in full swing soon. Of all the things we do, I think Vacation Bible School tops the list. It is a week of kids studying the Bible, singing songs about Jesus, and learning what it means to be a Christian. Each year the students are presented with the plan of salvation and given the opportunity to make their decision to follow Jesus. Begin praying now that souls will be saved during VBS. My sermons in the coming weeks will emphasize Jesus’ encounters. These encounters are life changing and need to be updated. All of us need a fresh encounter with the living Lord. Bring your Bible and open your heart. May God bless each of you. Your Pastor, Jerry Psalm 16:8
