From your Pastor’s Heart

They came to see me after church. Both had been on a long and painful journey. He had the effects of extensive chemotherapy treatments as well as the long nights of nausea. She had been his soul mate - sitting in waiting rooms and talking worried talks with physicians. Now, they both had smiles. His cancer was in remission. We prayed at the altar and thanked God for His presence even in their pain. It was a God-filled moment. So many in our church are going through difficult circumstances. Unwanted packages of pain have been delivered to their doors and now they are crying out for encouragement. Life is not fair and God has not promised that it would ever be fair. He has promised that He can take the pain that life throws at us and bring a blessing. Genesis 50:20 confirms this in the life of Joseph as he tells his brothers - “you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” (NLT) In God’s hands, even the worst evil can become an eventual good. What a mighty God we serve! June brings another crowded calendar. The church agenda includes weddings, Vacation Bible School, more mission trips, and of course, vacations. Being about the Father’s business is busy. Vacation Bible School is perhaps, the greatest evangelistic program of our church. So many working so hard but for so much. Many make their decisions for Christ at this window of opportunity in their lives. Pray for God to do a mighty work in the lives of this generation. Mission work is an experience that has its reward. Those who volunteer have carried God’s work to some far away places with different color faces. There is a mission field out there that calls for our attention, but there is also a mission field here in Fairhope that doesn’t need neglecting. Even in our beautiful environment, there are lost souls who have a destructive destination. Visitors come to our church each week and a visit or a call from us could make a difference in their search for God’s love. Invite someone to church this week. You never know what that invitation will do - both to you as well as the person asked. I will continue preaching from Acts. This week, Susan and I will be leaving before the first service ends to catch a plane. We leave for Baltimore and the Southern Baptist Convention. The sermon will be the first part of the service - so if you show up at 9:30, you will miss the sermon. Be on time this Sunday and hear God’s Word from Acts. Brent will preach the second service and Jeff will preach Sunday Night. Have a good two weeks. Be faithful to the Lord and to your Church. I thank God for each of you. Your Pastor, Jerry Matthew 7:25

Builders For Christ Team Returns From Smithfield, Virginia!
Our Builders for Christ Team recently returned from a very successful week of building in Smithfield, Virginia. They, along with volunteers from other churches, were able to almost entirely “dry in” the 17,000 sq. ft. structure in a week’s time. The congregation for Harvest Fellowship Baptist has been meeting for the past 13 years in a local school and this will be their first worship facility. Please pray for the work that will continue throughout the summer and into the fall. Pray that God will use this building experience to draw many people from the community to the congregation of Harvest Fellowship. The building process that would normally take a contractor a year to complete should be finished in about 4-5 months! Consider going with our team next year and join God in what He is doing in other areas of our nation to reach people for Christ as part of the Acts 1:8 Challenge!
Yucatan Group returns this Week!
Pray for safe travels back to the US and for the seeds planted through the VBS and the worship in their finished building to grow strong in the Yucatan.

Did you know that nearly 70% of Alabamians have not taken the time to create a Last Will and Testament? We find that statistic very alarming because most people would not be satisfied with the results of dying without a will. But why is that? Why do people put off this very important matter? Is it because we believe we will always have one more day to live? Procrastination, by definition, is “the act of willfully delaying the doing of something that should be done.” The Bible is full of scriptures that speak to the heart of the issue here: •
Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor. Proverbs 12:24
•
Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing. Proverbs 20:4
•
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Proverbs 27:1 1
It may very well be that you are anxious about this matter due to your family circumstances. Phillipians 4:6 teaches us to “not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” We, at The Baptist Foundation of Alabama, believe that having a Biblically based estate plan is an act of Stewardship. We would love to assist you in creating an estate plan that provides for both your family and your faith. Please pray about this matter and allow God to move you to act in a way that would be pleasing to Him.
