From your Pastor’s Heart
jhenry@fbcfairhope.org July amazes me. It is the hottest and most humid time of the year. However, some of my fondest memories are from moments in the month of July when I felt God’s presence to be so near. Maybe, the draw was a cool shade, or the feeling of a cool breeze, or watching the waves at the beach. If we look for God’s presence in the July settings, we will find God-filled moments that will refresh our souls. The greatest songwriter in the Old Testament – David – found God to be so real in the warmest of climates. He was in desperate need of soul restoration and God met that need in a desert place – “He restores my soul.” (Ps. 23:3 KJV) A good prayer during this month is for God to restore our souls. The word itself means to put new life within us. Life sometimes comes at us fast and hard, and leaves our souls in a drained condition. We need the spark of a fresh experience to ignite the joy of our salvation. The mood created by our fourth service on Wednesday helped to prepare me for our nation’s celebration. I was a kid again as I watched the fireworks at the bluff. All together, the combination of patriotism and God’s blessings made the fourth holiday a time to reconnect with the price of our freedoms. We are a blessed nation and may we always sing – “God bless America.” The sermons for the next two weeks will continue from Acts. Peter will move out of his comfort zone and share the gospel with a Gentile, desperate for salvation. God has to work harder on Peter to share than on the Gentile to receive. There are people all around who are desperate to hear about Christ, but it is God’s people who are so reluctant. May the Lord speak to your heart about inviting someone to our church services who needs to hear. It could be life changing for them as well as for you. Have a good two weeks. May God bless each of you. Your pastor, Jerry Romans 1:16
