Weed Management Guide
The following tables are taken from the 2018 Guide to Weed Control — Field Crops, Publication 75A. There are two new additions to the information in these tables that may be of interest. First is the inclusion of fall applied herbicide options in winter wheat. The second is the sensitivity of inter sown cover crops into standing corn to the various soil applied herbicide options. As always, if you have suggestions for how we can make the information in the guide of more value to you, then I would welcome that feedback.

Weed Management Guide 2018
WHO’S THE BOSS? YOU’RE THE BOSS. When you farm with a partner, sure, there might be the occasional point of disagreement. What to do about early-season weeds in your soybeans isn’t one of them. Turns out you both like DuPont™ Freestyle®. Use it with glyphosate in GT soybeans, including Roundup Ready 2 Xtend™, for a wider application window and better residual control. In IP soybeans, Freestyle® controls a broader spectrum of grasses and key broadleaf weeds. Really, what’s there to argue about?
Freestyle herbicide. The boss’s favourite. ®

Table 3. Emerged annual grass and broadleaf weed control ratings for post-emergence herbicides in corn √ x NC
Can be used on this crop. Cannot be used on this crop. Less than 50% control or is not recommended. The weed is “not controlled” by this herbicide treatment. R Populations exist that are resistant to this herbicide and won’t be controlled. 1 Weeds with more than two leaves emerged at time of application will not be controlled. 2 Large crabgrass only. 3 Weeds cannot be emerged at time of application to achieve this level of control. 4 Top growth control only. Visual weed control ratings: 9 = 90-100%, 8 = 80-89%, 7 = 70-79%, 6 = 60-69%, 5 = 50-59% Crop tolerance ratings: E = Excellent, G = Good, F = Fair, P = Poor Tolerant variety abbreviations: All This treatment can be applied to any soybean variety. Can be used on this crop. Cannot be used on this crop. Less than 50% control or is not recommended. “No information” available. R Populations exist that are resistant to this herbicide and won’t be controlled. 1 A tank-mix with Ultim (nicosulfuron/rimsulfuron) is required to achieve this level of control. 2 A tank-mix with Distinct, Marksman or Dicamba is required to achieve this level of control. 3 Two applications will be required to achieve this level of control throughout the season.
