Henry Alamango Henry Alamango is a self-taught artist who has made a name for himself in the figurative depiction of landscapes and coastal scenes drawn from the Maltese islands as well as from around the Mediterranean. Whilst watercolour is his main medium, he strives to include alternative or complementary media to better convey his perception of his subject's nature and mood. Gesso, acrylics and pastels are therefore also found on his palette. A prolific artist with several corporate and international clients to his name, Henry simply wishes to draw attention to our collective good fortune as custodians of a unique environmental and historical heritage - and hence our onerous responsibility for nurturing and passing on this patrimony.

Noel Attard
Born on April the 15th, 1966, Noel Attard was brought up in an artistic ambience he yearned to live up to. After attending various art schools, Noel later sought to compliment his practical side with theoretical academic studies at the University of Malta where he graduated in History of Art 2006. Noel chooses to be ascetic in his art and conveys only what is important to grasp the onlooker s attention. The texture is rich thanks to a balance reached between the aggressive application of paint and use of gauze in the background which thickens the canvas and a studied use of subtle colour in the foreground.

John Martin Borg Borg John Martin Borg is mostly renowned for his maritime pictures and atmospheric landscapes. However over the past two decades or so he broke new grounds with his abstract and religious works intertwining them seamlessly together to produce individual distinctive works, easily identifiable with the artist. To this extent his last personal exhibition, held at the National Museum of Fine Arts last February, was all dedicated to his abstract works. The works of John Martin Borg are locally found in a number of important places including the Museum of Contemporary Arts, the Maritime Museum, the Cathedral Museum Mdina, and the presidential Palace at San Anton and in the reserve collection of the Museum of Fine Arts. His works have also been exhibited abroad at the Mall gallery and the Royal Watercolour Society in London, at the UNESCO Head Quarters in Paris, The Castel in Heidelberg Germany; as well as in Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart, Salzburg, Paris, San Tropez, Tunisia, Dubai and Florida (USA). His water colours are also found at the World Health Organisation centre in Geneva and the Commonwealth Centre in London. One of his paintings forms part of the Royal Collection in London. This had been presented to the Royal Couple by the President of Malta, His Excellency Dr. Censu Tabone in May 1992. Another of his paintings was presented to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on His visit to Malta in April 2010, by His Excellency Dr. George Abela, President of Malta.

Doriette Gauci Sciortino
Doriette Gauci Sciortino, a self thought artist, who works primarily in oil, is best known both locally and abroad as an interpreter of marine art. Art academics argue that painting waves is one of the most challenging forms of artistry. Waves are explosions of life and motion, and Doriette interprets these elements in a way that makes the paintings powerful and truthful to the emotions they carry. For the artist to translate waves into a piece of art one requires conceptual and perceptual skills.“Over the years”, Doriette states “I have perfected my own techniques and now I feel confident in experimenting with people and depicting the emotions that the sea brings to their Special Moments”. Doriette works on several paintings simultaneously, regardless of which she chooses to work on, the sea is always the central and most prominent theme in her art. Doriette organized various exhibitions, both solo and collective with outstanding success. She was the organizer at Ir-Razzett tal-Markiz Mallia Tabone, Mosta of the collective exhibitions “Diversity in Arts” 2007, 2008 and 2009. Her first solo exhibition at The Gallery at the Corinthia Palace Hotel at Attard was held in 2004. Second solo exhibitions “No Limits Sea and Sky” took place in 2011. Her third solo exhibition “Special Moments” was held at The Institution of Tourism Studies, St.Julian’s in October 2012. Her oil painting “Gozo Tranquility” was chosen by Heritage Malta and the Tourism Authority for “This is Malta” campaign at Harrods in London.

Francis Galea
Francis was born in Mosta, 12th January 1950. His subject matter is usually connected with scenes from the Romantic past of these sun blessed islands. Farmhouses and chapels, streets and alley- ways of a bygone era which can still be admired on canvas. But their beauty is of a transience which Francis tries, and indeed manages to capture. It is as if he is working against time before it all dissipates and disappears under tons of modern mediocrity. It is his foreboding almost tangibly sinister skies and his impasto technique with the palette knife which convey this sense of a dangerous decay which is imminent and unavoidable. His subdued palette also conveys this sense of delicate decay which, although visually pleasing, charges us with a noble rage at the everyday despoiling of beauty. In the 70s Francis started participating in several collective art exhibitions, both locally and abroad. He also experienced in Graphic Design; spray-painting of logos/adverts; design and construction on Carnival Floats and was also involved in the design projects of particular display stands at the Malta Trade Fair and Olympia Exhibition Hall in London. His first personal Art Exhibition was held in 1980 at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. Francis started his teaching career in 1973 where his main subjects were Technical Design, Mechanical Engineering and Art. He is a member of the Council of Malta Society of Arts. Manufactures and Commerce and holds a Diploma in Educational Administration and Management.

Justine MB We last enjoyed Justine MB’s art when she exhibited her ballerinas some years ago. The sailing boats she also displayed couples with one of her favourite themes, ballerinas, give us a sense of nostalgia and some of the boat paintings have a wistful and serene atmosphere while the ballerinas sparkle with vitality. Justine has a romantic sensibility which is evident in all her paintings. It is these qualities which giver her works a distinctive power. A painting of a boat at sea on a cloudy day of flat is a ‘slow’ painting. Another of a stormy day, painted in shades of blue makes you wonder if the voyagers will arrive safely. A third painting of a boat is in different shades of brown and has a familiar and reassuring Valletta skyline. Her ballerinas twirl in a kaleidoscope of colour. The canvas, to Justine MB is a stage on which to perform. One painting depicting a scene from a summer festa is a swarm of colour with dabs and dashes of orange and read. Justine MB needs no introduction to locals. She comes from a family which, on both sides naturally gifted and painted in the chiaroscuro method. She initially started some sketch work under the supervision of her grandmothers, Antonia Cassar Torregiani and Marcelle Bonici Mallia nee Denaro, the latter, a painter and restorer who worked for years with Fr. Marius Zerafa, the former curator of the Fine Arts Museum and an artist. She has experimented extensively not only with colour, but also with pottery, cloth statues, batik, dyes and other media. Justine was privately tutored by well-known Maltese artists and also attended classes at the School of Art in Valletta and at Targa Gap. Here she continued to experiment and painted in acrylics and water colours and a number of lessons were dedicated to life painting, painting outdoors and still life. In May 2001, she pursued her studies overseas at the Chelsea College of Art and Design and in Florence at the Angel Academy of Art.
