Annual Report 2014/2015

Welcome

President’s Message Happy birthday Singapore! Singapore turns 50 in 2015... a very festive year as the island-nation has so much to celebrate. What an amazing journey since the independence of the country in 1965! Singapore positions itself as the “gateway between Asia and the rest of the world.” It has indeed become one of the top cities in the world, being ranked as the world’s easiest place to do business, and it is well known for its reliability, efficiency, rule of law, and protection of intellectual property rights. It is both a pro-business environment and an exciting place to discover. This conducive environment has attracted many French companies: for some, Singapore is their first step for venturing into Asia; for others, it has become a strategic regional hub for the Asian market. As a consequence, the FCCS has experienced steady financial results and tremendous growth of both its member base and its business community: in the past five years, its membership base almost doubled, with a great variety of sectors, sizes and profiles of companies represented. The number of SMEs and entrepreneurs has boomed and many MNCs have expanded their presence, with new R&D and innovation centres, training academies, sourcing and logistic platforms, etc.. The French Chamber brings value to all its members through a wide range of business services, meetings, events and initiatives. It also actively supports economic, commercial and investment relations between France and Singapore, a thriving partnership that was celebrated during Singapour je t’aime, the one and only French gala in March this year. An important step was reached last September, with the extension of our office and business centre on the 12th floor of Liat towers, so as to better serve our SMEs and entrepreneurs. A new mentoring programme also began in January to help them further in their expansion plans in the region. Our 18 active committees represent fantastic platforms to exchange and develop one’s professional network, while boosting your chances for new business opportunities. They all have numerous more events ahead to promote our members’ business interests in Singapore and in the region, and I encourage everyone to get involved. Pierre Verdière President The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore

Executive Director’s Message 2014-2015 represented a major step in the life of the FCCS. To help the growing number of French companies and guide them in their development in Singapore and in the region, we have expanded our business centre offering 44 office spaces, up from 18. Our Business Support department has been very active in supporting French companies throughout the year, organising numerous business missions and lending a hand to companies in their set up here. Singapore’s dynamism is reflected in the growing activity of our recruitment services: indeed, we placed 74 candidates and received over 176 job offers. Our Business Club has reached a new milestone with now more than 600 member companies that take part in our dynamic network; and together with our members and 18 committees, we organised over 150 events throughout the year. We created two new committees, Healthcare and French Maritime Cluster, with the aim to strengthen the relationships, information sharing and business opportunities from companies in these two sectors. We are also working on a Smart City project to provide answers to Singapore’s Smart Nation priorities and present how French companies can address Singapore’s long-term urban challenges and development. Following the success of the So Chic initiative in 2014, our communication’s department and retail committee carried on with their actions to promote French know-how, French brands and French gastronomy in Singapore with the publication of So Chic 2015. We reached an even wider audience through a larger distribution scheme and the weekly digital activation on Facebook. The FCCS went a step further in the digital space, with the launch of our new FCCS Application, which allows members to access precious information and event updates at their fingertips. Download it today if you have not already done so! Our major event this year was a memorable and extraordinary Gala dinner – Happy Birthday Singapore – that we organised together with all the French institutions in Singapore, to pay a tribute from France to Singapore for its 50th Birthday. We also wanted to thank Singapore for welcoming our business community to settle in such an exciting part of the world and contribute to Singapore’s success story. French culture, science, education, sports and gastronomy have been on the forefront of the scene with the re-launch of Voilah! French Festival Singapore by the French Embassy and the Institut Français, in partnership with the FCCS. My team and I thank you for your confidence and support and we look forward to another fruitful year ahead of us. Carine Lespayandel Executive Director The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore

Comme la FCCS nous avait déjà accompagné avec succès pour l’ouverture de notre filiale à Singapour nous avons décidé de leur réaccorder notre confiance. A Powerful Network to Support your Growth in Asia Every year, all the French Chambers of Commerce in Asia gather for their annual meeting. Growth and dynamism can define this powerful network, which has become one of the most influential in the region. This year’s meeting was held in Sydney, Australia, and focused on business support services. Several action plans were discussed to enhance coordination between the Chambers in Asia.

Singapore and Beyond Thanks to its strategic location in Asia, the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore plays a key role in accompanying French companies in Singapore and beyond. The FCCS aims to enhance its collaborations with the French Chambers of the region and many initiatives recently launched illustrate this trend. The FCCS Business Support regularly coordinates regional missions by tapping into this dynamic network. French companies then have the possibility to extend their business mission beyond Singapore to explore additional business opportunities. We welcome representatives and experts from Southeast Asia on a regular basis to share the business practices and, hence, help our members expand their business in this fast-growing region. Last but not least, we organise several business missions for our members in neighbouring markets, such as the joint seminar and site visit in Iskandar, Malaysia.

Partners in France CCI France International The French Chamber is a member of CCI France International. Founded in 1907, it brings together 112 French Chambers in 82 countries, which together represent the largest private network of French companies in the world. Its mission is to act as a network coordinator circulating information, cooperation and know-how, promoting its members to the business networks in France and providing some specific services. The FCCS participates twice a year in seminars, once with all the Directors of all international French Chambers and once with the Directors of the French Chambers in Asia, for experience-sharing. The FCCS also collaborates on a regular basis with a number of CCIs in France and is proud to be part of this network, helping French SMEs to internationalise.

French Ministry of Foreign Affairs The FCCS continues its mission of assistance to French citizens willing to find a job in Singapore and benefits again this year from a financial support for fulfilling this mission.

Other Partners The FCCS collaborates on a regular basis with numerous other partners in France: the French regions competitivity clusters, the professional associations and business confederations.
