Annual Report 2016/2017
French Chamber Singapore
Welcome
President’s Message The French Chamber has achieved another busy and successful year, strengthening its role as a key point of contact in the region for the French business community in Singapore. We have a dynamic team at the Chamber and the great support of the Board to thank for this. With over 200 meetings and events organised by 18 business-oriented committees throughout the year, the French Chamber continues to maintain a dynamic and highly active calendar of activities. This past year has seen its activities grow in scale, scope and diversity, as it continues working towards providing value and support for all of its members – ambitious entrepreneurs, budding SMEs and prominent MNCs. Innovation has emerged as a key theme in the global business landscape, and most certainly in Singapore, and collaboration has become an increasingly important approach. In this context, the French Chamber has organised a number of large-scale events to facilitate sharing of knowledge and expertise, and to enable industry players to connect with each other, with thought leaders and with Singapore governmental agencies. From the ‘Wise Innovation’ conference which centred on smart city innovation to the fintech forum ‘Fintech Beyond the Hype’, these largescale forums provided a focused platform and a vibrant foundation for constructive engagement. The ‘Smart Health’ platform, to be launched, brings together diverse actors in a collective and collaborative process, and we will see a creative showcase of the wide-ranging innovative solutions of our companies. The entrepreneurial drive of our entrepreneur members also continues to energise the Chamber’s actions. The Business Accelerator Lab, now in its second year, challenges entrepreneurs to refine and further develop their ideas, while the Mentoring Programme continues to provide practical guidance and unique support to the development needs of each participant. Having seen an uptick in entrepreneur members searching for co-founders and investors for their projects, the Chamber has begun work on a Business Opportunity Platform which should see its rollout in the coming year. As a veritable ecosystem of both large and small companies, the French Chamber will continue to play an active role to serve its members. It will also continue working closely with the French Trade Advisors and the various departments of the French Embassy, in particular, to build on the 2018 France-Singapore Year of Innovation. Drawing on our collective strength, we are able to reach further and make our expertise and capabilities more visible and meaningful. There are numerous more events ahead to promote our members’ business interests in Singapore and in the region, and I encourage everyone to get involved. Doina Palici-Chehab President The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore

Executive Director’s Message I am pleased to share with you the French Chamber Annual Report 2016/2017. Over the past year, we strived to segment our offer to ensure that we provide services that are relevant for all our member companies, big and small, across all sectors. As the French business community continues to grow in strength, we endeavour to meet its ever-evolving needs, and constantly bring value. It is exciting to see our 18 committees make deeper inroads into the local ecosystem. From meetings, talks and conferences with specific Singapore governmental agencies to a career fair in the city-state’s largest university, we are inspired by the dynamism and drive of this country. French companies have much to offer and it is great to see these conversations and interactions develop and deepen. At the same time, recognising that Singapore is a gateway to other exciting markets in Asia, we continue to pursue our mission of connecting actors to this region. In cooperation with other French Chambers in Asia, our Business Support department coordinated a number of regional business missions, our Human Resources consultants facilitated recruitment of regional candidates, and our Business Club brought a delegation of members to explore opportunities in the energy and infrastructure sector in Myanmar. The Business Centre merits special attention as it evolves to provide business development support for the companies it hosts. More than a convivial office space, it has a dedicated calendar of activities that, designed together with the hosted companies, addresses their business development needs. From workshops on prospection skills to experience-sharing sessions with subject experts, it leverages on our strong local and regional network to help our companies reach further and wider. Digital is taking over the world, and the Chamber, too, has embarked on its own digitalisation programme, seeking to better promote and give visibility to our members. The online Member’s Directory has been expanded and it now features in-depth company in searchable design, making it easier for people to find and contact businesses. We have ramped up our presence on social media to keep members posted on business news and upcoming events. Having just set up a new videoconferencing system, we can look forward to connecting with partners and experts remotely. This year has been a highly dynamic one, and many projects lie ahead for 2017/2018. I am grateful to see the business community grow stronger each year, and on behalf of all the team, I warmly thank our members for their active involvement and fantastic support! Carine Lespayandel Executive Director The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore

Our Asia Network A Powerful Network to Support your Growth in Asia
Every year, all the French Chambers of Commerce in Asia gather for their annual meeting. Growth and dynamism can define this powerful network, which has become one of the most influential in the region. This year’s meeting was held in Taipei, Taiwan, and focused on business support services. Several action plans were discussed to enhance coordination between the Chambers in Asia.
Singapore and Beyond
Thanks to its strategic location in Asia, the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore plays a key role in accompanying French companies in Singapore and beyond. The French Chamber aims to enhance its collaborations with the French Chambers of the region and many initiatives recently launched illustrate this trend. The French Chamber Business Support regularly coordinates regional missions by tapping into this dynamic network. French companies then have the possibility to extend their business mission beyond Singapore to explore additional business opportunities. We welcome representatives and experts from Southeast Asia on a regular basis to share the business practices and, hence, help our members expand their business in this fast-growing region. Last but not least, we organise several business missions for our members in neighbouring markets, such as Malaysia and Myanmar.
