Infrastructure projects in Bangalore: How they contribute to traffic Bangalore, the IT hub of the nation, is about to take a quantum leap, with the completion of its numerous on-going infrastructure projects, undertaken by BDA, BMRCL, Railways, BBMP and NHAI. Such projects add to their essence by including both the aspects of traffic congestionsupgrading the road infrastructure and setting up of an well-organized transportation system. Till their completion, such projects has instead added significantly towards traffic congestion, however, with the wrapping up of such initiatives, the real estate sector of the city is expected to rise several notches up. Some of the major on-going infrastructure projects in the city that require a special mention, namely: Mumbai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor The Mumbai-Bangalore corridor is expected to give a major thrust to the realty sector of the city. With an aim to leverage the residential, commercial along with industrial infrastructure and transform the micro-markets along the route into a growth node, the project is expected to deliver more than expected. The project (when completed) is expected to cut down the distance and time between the Mumbai-Pune-Bangalore routes and aid the commuters significantly. Peripheral Ring Road Redefining itself as a boon for township builders, the Peripheral Ring Road is an undeniable aspect of Bangalore’s infrastructure. With time, the number of buyers picking up the tab in this segments have registered a huge growth, thereby contributing to price increase. With the completion of the proposed Peripheral Ring Road, congested places like Electronic City, Whitefield and Kormangala will have a significant cut down in travel time. The segment is expected to plug into numerous residential districts of Bangalore, and help residents skip out on the present traffic mess. Hebbal to Bengaluru International Airport – Road widening project The road expansion work of the 22 km stretch from Hebbal to Bengaluru International Airport is a segment of the five signal free corridors of the garden City. The project is likely to shoot up the real estate prices along the


stretch. Real estate prices in Hebbal are already soaring high and are likely to hit the roof when the road widening gets operational. Jnanabharathi and Old Airport Road- the elevated corridor Planned as the pride of the Garden City, the completion of the construction of the elevated corridor between Old Airport and Jnanabharathi is expected to resolve traffic congestion in North significantly. The Nayandahalli junction, is generally chock-full with vehicles entering the city limits from Mysore. The path is conceptualized as the medium to ease the traffic flow in North and leave it unhindered. Bangalore – Mysore Expressway The proposed corridor, also tagged as NICE road, has been regarded as one the most crucial infrastructures of all time in the city. The state government had allotted an additional 600 acres to NICE, with the notion that it will give the real estate market of the area a significant boost. With the functioning of the aforesaid projects, the city will be endowed with state-of -the art infrastructure that will add to easy connectivity and accessibility and will contribute to investment decisions.
