Welcome to the 2013 FD Rant News New York State Parade and Drill Special Edition. This edition contains extensive coverage of all four of the championship events: Junior State Drill, State Old Fashioned, State Motorized and, of course, the NYS Parade. The Junior Drill was held in West Sayville on July 28th. Despite threatening skies the event saw only a sprinkle of rain as the Bay Shore Junior Redskins took home the top honors with an impressive 32 points. Our coverage the n shifted to Upstate New York in Spencerport for the Old Fashioned Championship which was won by the Miller Place Extinguishers on August 10th. The following weekend the Hempstead and West Hempstead Fire Departments teamed up to host the Motorized Drill on Saturday August 17th and the NYS Parade on Sunday August 18th. Over 50 teams competed in the drill with the Central Islip Hoboes taking home the top prize with 28 points. The State Parade featured over 70 fire departments from all across New York State with Wyandanch, North Babylon, Oceanside and Freeport taking 1st place in their respective categories. All of us here at the FD Rant News would like to congratulate all of the winners. It was nice to see so many friendly faces in Hempstead for the parade and drill. I would like to tip my cap to the Hempstead and West Hempstead Fire Departments for their tremendous efforts in hosting so many departments along with their fans. It was one of the most well run events I have ever attended. Nice job everyone!!! [I only wish I had the winning ticket for that 50/50!!!] Our commitment to our readers is to provide the MOST and the BEST coverage of the Long Island Fire Service. This edition is proof of that commitment. You won’t see coverage like this anywhere else. Thanks to the efforts of our Associate Editor Kim Versheck, our Media Consultant Mary Beth Steenson Kraese and Correspondent Kenny Bradbury the 2013 New York State Parade and Drill Special has raised the bar in covering these events. N.Y.S. Junior Championship Tournament Hosted by West Sayville Story and Photos by Kim Versheck

On the morning of July 28th 2013, thirteen teams and their fans gathered in West Sayville for the running of the New York State Junior Championship Tournament. The sky was slightly overcast and forecast was calling for rain later in the afternoon but this did not stop the stands from filling in early. The Islip Jr. Wolves had a strong season coming in to this drill already dominating the overall point race and taking first place in every drill except the previous weeks drill, hosted by Bay Shore. With the Bay Shore Jr. Redskins coming off a win and teams like the Lindenhurst, Central Islip and Hagerman on Islip’s heels all season this was going to be an epic tournament. The Main-Transit Fast Pokes even made the trip down to compete in this year’s drill. After the opening ceremonies concluded, the Islip Terrace Jr. Schlagers took the track first to start off Junior Ladder but a time of 5.24 would not hold on long. As the West Sayville Jr. Flying Dutchmen followed with a time of 3.32 they proved just that. Medford’s Jr. Mavericks would find a time of 3.98 and a spot in the top 5 before the next few teams jumped on and off the scoreboard with times in the high 4’s. The Islip Jr. Wolves found the next “3” with a time of 3.75 to join the top 5. The Central Islip Jr. Hoboes took the ladder next and their top time off 2.95 would land them in first place in the event. The Selden Slowpokes joined the top 5 briefly but the Bay Shore Jr. Redskins quickly jumped ahead to third place with a time of 3.34 at the end of the event. Intermediate Ladder would see a few times in the 5’s at the beginning but the East Islip Jr. Guzzlers climbed to a time of 4.43, setting the mark to beat. Hagerman’s Jr. Gamblers would follow with a time of 4.55, joining the top 5 and earning their only points in the ladder events for the day. The Jr. Wolves found a time of 4.34 to land above the Jr. Guzzlers but were quickly passed by a time of 3.88 by the Jr. Hoboes to take first place once again. With the Lindenhurst Jr. Snails time of 5.20 holding on to the fifth spot, the Jr. Redskins took their turn at the ladder and a time of 4.58 would take over that last spot on the scoreboard. The Jr. Schlagers put up a time of 5.34 to get things rolling in Individual Ladder and the Jr. Guzzlers would find the next “5” with a climb of 5.40. North Babylon’s Jr. Tail Draggers would join the scoreboard with a run of 5.70 before the Jr. Snails fell short. A time of 5.10 by the Bayport/Blue Point Might Midgets would briefly take the lead before the Jr. Wolves climbed their way into first place with a time of 4.69. A slip at the bottom of the ladder would keep the Jr. Hoboes off the scoreboard for the first time. Selden and Main-Transit would both fall short before the Jr. Redskins found a time of 5.08 to land second place in the event. The Jr. Wolves were now ahead by 1 but the Jr. Hoboes and Jr. Redskins were right on the heels as the wooden ladder was taken down for the day. FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

Running Ladder would get underway but the timing equipment would seem to not want to cooperate causing a switch to hand time and a re-run of the event. The Jr. Dutchmen would get the event underway with a time of 9.84 after the switch to hand time. As the next few teams had some problems with their re-runs Lindenhurst would finish their run with a request for the “General Judges.” This unfortunately led to disappoint though when they were found to have a rope on the cart that was too long and earned a no time. This was the first time all season that the Jr. Snails did not come out off the ladder events without any points. The Mighty Midgets would be next on to the scoreboard with their time of 9.93. The Islip Jr. Wolves took the line next and as they grabbed the top rung the call for the “General Judges” went out once again. After everything was gone over by the officials and the Id’s were verified the Jr. Wolves new State Record time of 8.03 was announced. Central Islip would find their way into the top 5 with a time of 9.67 before Bay Shore stepped in to second place at the end of the event with a time of 8.80. With Ladders now completed, the point race was as follows: Islip 16, Central Islip 13, Bay Shore 12, West Sayville 6, East Islip 4, Blue Point 4, Islip terrace 2, Hagerman 2 and Medford 1. Junior Running Hose would kick off with a time of 17.58 by the Jr. Schlagers before the next few teams had some nozzle trouble. The Jr. Gamblers were the next team to put it together and at a time of 12.81 would find the top of the scoreboard for the time being. The Jr. Snails with a time of 14.31 found the top 5 for the first time in the tournament. The Jr. Wolves would also have some nozzle trouble but grabbed a time of 20.09 to find that bottom spot on the scoreboard before the Jr. Redskins found first place with a time of 12.19 and was now tied with Islip in the total point race. West Sayville would be the first team to into the top 5 in Running Hose when they stopped the clock at 12.85. Ears Islip would follow with a time of 11.40 but an 11.12 by Hagerman would quickly find the top of the scoreboard. Again it would seem that the nozzle men would prove to have some issues allowing the Selden Slowpokes to find the board with a time of 13.68. With the Jr. Wolves missing the top 5 Bay Shore came down the track and tripped the target at 10.85. This now broke the tie for first and the Jr. Redskins took the lead for the first time during the tournament

. Running Hose Replacement would be next and prove to give some teams trouble giving a few teams a couple well needed points. The Jr. Schlagers would find a time of 24.97 to start off the event and the Jr. Guzzlers would be next to join the scoreboard with a 25.71. Hagerman despite a trip as they came down the track came in with a time of 24.19 to join the top 5 but Lindenhurst would find the top spot, tripping the target at 21.36. As the field continued the replacement length gave all some problems in one way or another leaving the Jr. Slowpokes to find the last spot on the scoreboard with a time of 25.97. With three events left in the day, there was a point race heating up between the top 5 teams and Junior Efficiency Replacement would hold some much needed points. West Sayville set the mark to beat with a time of 28.11 as they started of the event. As the next few teams saw the scoreboard with time well above the Jr. Dutchmen’s time, the Jr. Snails tripped the target at 27.70 to take the lead and start pushing teams out off the board. The Jr. Wolves found a time of 35.60 to get back into the tournament but the Jr. Hoboes showed they were not going to be forgotten, earning a 26.28 to take over the top of the scoreboard. The Jr. Redskins’ time of 33.27, chiseled out another two points towards their lead. With two events left the point standings were as follows: Bay Shore 24, Islip & Central Islip 18, Hagerman 14, Lindenhurst 12, West Sayville 11, East Islip 9, Islip Terrace 7, Blue Point 4, Selden 2 and Medford 1.

The Wye contest would prove to the toughest of the day, especially for the Islip Jr. Wolves. As the event got underway, Islip was looking for the points they needed to take the lead back over Bay Shore and after the Jr. Wolves tripped the target a call for the “General Judges” went out. Everyone looked on as the equipment and water were tested, but the announcement was not of a new state record but that the water was found to be out of tolerance! The event would now have to be re-run and started with Central Islip running first. The Jr. Wolves watched on as the field took their times and now took the line once again. They came down the track, the target tripped and the PA system once again called out “General Judges!” In an unbelievable turn of fate the water was found to be out of tolerance yet again and the teams were lined backed up for another re-run of the event. Lindenhurst’s 25.88 would find the first time in the top 5 as the third running of the contest was underway. The Mighty Midgets would find the scoreboard with a 26.69 before the Jr. Wolves took the track yet again. As Islip finished their run a brief pause and silence fell across the track before their time of 25.16 was announced, not a state record but a strong time with a few teams left to run. Central Islip grabbed a 27.38 but Bay Shore would find a second place time of 25.59 as they ended the event. Bay Shore now had a solid lead as Efficiency started but it was not locked up yet and a couple of 12’s saw the scoreboard at the beginning of the event. East Islip with a time of 10.88 would be the first to jump ahead of the field and Hagerman would follow with a 10.27. Islip left the line and quickly tripped the target at 9.70 taking over first place on the scoreboard. Central Islip got into the mix at 10.18 leaving all eyes on Bay Shore, who now needed one point to win. The Jr. Redskins were announced and what seemed like a blink of the eye were down the track tripping the target at 9.88!!! The Bay Shore Junior Redskins were now the New York State Junior Champions!! They had come from behind and showed their strengths and defended their previous year’s state title. FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

N.Y.S. Old Fashioned Tournament Hosted by Spencerport Story and Photos by Kim Versheck – LNBN

This year’s New York State Old Fashioned State Championship Tournament was held in Spencerport, on August 10th 2013. Unfortunately many of the Long Island teams did not make the journey upstate for the drill, but eight teams did show up on the sun filled afternoon to compete for the state championship. The fans took to the bleachers or set up the chairs on the hill along the south side of the track as Three Man Ladder began. Main-Transit would be running in the first spot and set the pace with a time of 6.93. Henrietta would follow with a time of 8.34 and Rocky Point found a time of 9.41. Miller Place quickly took the lead as they grabbed a time of 6.78 before North Greece rounded the first 5 on the scoreboard with a time of 8.91. Spencerport got a little tangled up and missed the mark with a time of 10.39. Point Pleasant took to the ladder next and jumped ahead of the field with a time of 6.67 before Sheridan Park would finish off the event with a time of 11.68. With the first event of the day in the books the wooden ladder came down and the lights were set for Running Ladder. A time of 9.16 by Main-Transit would get things off for a start and Sheridan Park would follow with a 14.03 leaving a lot of room for the remaining field to find the scoreboard. Henrietta would quickly jump ahead grasping an 8.36 before Rocky Point would join them on the scoreboard next with a 9.90. Miller Place would dig in and find a time of 9.45 as they climbed into the top 5. North Greece with a time of 10.62 would unseat Sheridan Park but Spencerport with an 11.28 would miss the scoreboard. Point Pleasant climbed in to first place with a time of 8.04 and where now in the lead coming out of ladders and a three way tie for second place had now formed between Main-Transit, Henrietta and Miller Place at 6 points apiece.

FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

Page 12

After some minor adjustments to get the water time in tolerance Running Hose got underway with an 11.77 by Main-Transit. Sheridan Park would over run their nozzle by a bit, earning a time of 19.26 before Henrietta put up a time of 11.93. Rocky Point would shave a 1/100th off of Henrietta’s time to slide on to the scoreboard with an 11.92. As the target tripped at 11.05, Miller Place showed the other teams they meant business. A run of 13.94 by North Greece and Spencerport with a 12.64 would both visit the scoreboard before Point Pleasant took the course. Stopping the clock at 11.62, Point Pleasant landed in second place and kept themselves ahead in the point race. Main-Transit with a time of 22.88 got Running Hose Replacement underway. Sheridan Park would run in to some problems, first blowing off at the replacement gate before tripping the first target followed by having some trouble getting the second coupling on the replacement length earning a time of 41.42. Henrietta put up a clean run of 20.74 to show how it was done and took the lead in the event. A quick grab of dropped nozzle appeared to save Rocky Point but they would stop the clock at 36.07 after amiss at the replacement gate. A time of 20.38 was announced as Miller Place finished their run and moved above Henrietta on the scoreboard. North Greece would unseat Sheridan Park with a time of 27.36 before Spencerport grabbed their first points of the day when they earned a time of 22.69. Point Pleasant with a time of 20.83 took third place but was now only one point ahead of Miller Place.

FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

Page 13

As the carts were put away for the day the overall point race was tight with a few clear leaders but with up to 20 point left on the table it really could have been anyone’s day. Scoring in every event so far, a time of 31.18 by Main-Transit, again would put up the first time to beat on the scoreboard. It seemed that Sheridan Park would have some “coupling problems,” eventually finishing at 63.23. Henrietta also got a little wet when their coupling blew of their “t” adapter earning them a 39.26. Rocky Point would show the couplings that they were the boss and earn a time of 26.10 but Miller Place followed just a bit faster taking first place when they tripped the targets at 24.11. North Greece would end up getting a re-run due to a clock issue before Spencerport put up a time of 35.31 to unseat Sheridan Park. Point Pleasant would take a time of 30.70 to jump into the middle of the scoreboard but had now lost their lead in the overall point race. North Greece at 36.99 would fall short of Spencerport sitting in fifth as the event ended. Entering Efficiency the tournament still had plenty of mathematical outcomes but Main-Transit just put their heads down and took their shot earning a time of 9.93. With a “9” on top of the scoreboard Sheridan Park and Henrietta would both visit the top 5 but not stay long. A time of 10.90 would follow from Rocky Point, this not only put them on the scoreboard but would also earn them the points they needed to get in to the overall top 5. Miller Place now seemed to be on auto pilot as they again just cruised into first place with a time of 9.66. Spencerport once again found they had pushed out Sheridan Park when they put up a time of 11.13 but more importantly took a point from Henrietta, which now put then in the race for fifth place overall. Point Pleasant took the track and left the line quick but the second slack man got his ankle tied up in the hose causing him to fall but probably saved his ankle. A time of 10.33 put Point Pleasant into third place and three points behind Miller Place. The Overall Point Standings with two events left were: Miller Place 26, Point Pleasant 23, Main-Transit 16, Henrietta 11, Rocky Point 9, Spencerport 4 and North Greece 1.

FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

Page 14

After Main-Transit put in their time of 9.21, Sheridan Park let their “wye” get away from them earning a 33.40 as Two into One got underway. Henrietta would also find some problems with the “wye” and missed their chance to put up a time. Rocky Point made it look easy as they tripped the clock at 9.14 to take the lead in the event. With a bit of a crossed thread at the hydrant Miller Place made their way into third place with a time of 9.43. North Greece at 12.66 would again hit the scoreboard but quickly move down to fifth place as Spencerport found the last “9” of the event, with a time of 9.78. Point Pleasant seemed to have a little trouble with the back gate but managed to find a time of 10.13 to land fifth place and the one point to keep them in tying distance of Miller Place. All attention turned to the arch as the Bucket contest was about to get started. Known for being a good bucket team Main-Transit set the mark high with their time of 21.33. Sheridan Park finished their day with a run of 37.72, before Henrietta got a bit tangled up on the ladder to earn a time of 31.68. Rocky Point would get it down below 30 seconds next, when they stopped the clock at 28.65. Miller Place left the line next and as they counted out their buckets, filled the barrel to a time of 24.76. This locked up the state championship for Miller Place but all eyes went quickly back to the track as North Greece took the track. North Greece had not seen a point since 3 Man Ladder but had done a fine job keeping up with the other larger teams, since the Lil Squirts arrived and ran with 6 men all day! As they took their shot, the TWO bucket men ran in circles passing directly to the 3rd man on the ladder. The crowd cheered them along as they earned a time of 56.45, which is not that bad for a 6 man bucket team. A time of 27.10 would put Spencerport in the top 5 in the event but would of taking fifth place from Henrietta. Point Place would take the line last needing to earn at least two points to keep second place and they did just that when they stopped the clock at 24.50. The race had been tight all day but the Miller Place Extinguishers had taken their third, New York State Old Fashioned Championship! With the first ever NYS Old Fashioned drill held upstate in the books, a few upstate teams showed they can compete and they were looking forward to coming down to the Island to Compete next season.

NY State Motorized Championship Tournament Hosted by the Hempstead Yellow Hornets and the West Hempstead Westerners Story and Photos by Kim Versheck – LNBN

On August 17th 2013, the Hempstead Yellow Hornets and the West Hempstead Westerners, co hosted the 2013 New York State Motorized Championship Tournament. Approximately 40 teams from across the state made the trip to the Chief Brian D. Fahey Fire Training Facility on Weir Street in Hempstead to compete in this year’s tournament. The weather was clear skies and a high of 84, a nice day for racing as the fans started to gather at the track for what would be the ninth time the state drill was run in Hempstead. The day was started with the National Anthem sung by Krista Ferrara and a brief prayer by Hempstead Chaplin Keith Ericson. Three Man Ladder would get underway with the sun shining through the arch and Islip running first for the day, would land a re-run do to a clock issue. After a quick adjustment The Deer Park Bucks would get things going again with an 8.23 but the Islip Wolves would set the mark to beat at 6.37 as they took their re-run shot. The Lindenhurst Snails with a time of 6.79 would be the next team to find a 6 as the contest started to pick up its pace. The Hicksville Hicks would find the scoreboard next as they stopped the clock just shy of the snails at 6.80. Rockville Centre and Farmingville would also join the top 5 before a time of 6.75 by the Bay Shore Redskins would place them above the Snails on the scoreboard. The Point Pleasant Pea Pickers at 6.65 would be the first upstate team to join the top 5 as they unseated the Farmingville Bandits. The Hicks were taken out of the running when the West Sayville Flying Dutchmen grabbed a time of 6.44 to take over second place. After a couple slips on the ladder kept the rest of the field from placing, the first contest of the day was in the books and the call to move the equipment was made.

With the lights set and the sun now a little higher on the arch, Islip would leave the line first to take a time of 5.22 to get things started in the B Ladder contest. The New Hyde Park Termites would come in at 5.79 and Port Washington grabbed at 5.69. The Hicks, which have had a very impressive season with some new team records and being part of the three way finish for first in the Nassau County drill, would take the line next. As their growing fan base cheered from the stands, Hicksville climbed to a time of 5.42 to join the top 5. To round out the scoreboard the Westbury Turtles put up a time of 5.56 before the North Lindenhurst Piston Knockers found a time of 5.19 to unseat the Termites. As the next few teams missed the mark, Port Washington would get taken out by a time of 5.37 by the Farmingville Bandits. The Redskins would also get in to the mix with a time of 5.51 but were quickly knocked out by the defending state champion Westerners. West Hempstead’s 5.21 would advance them ahead of the Islip Wolves by margin of a 1/100th of a second. The Dutchman would be the next team to find the scoreboard with a time of 5.14, to take the lead in the contest and unseat Hicksville. Farmingville would be eliminated as Central Islip showed they were a team with an agenda, taking over first with their time of 5.13 (the second difference of an 1/100th of the contest)

.the stands were now packed as the day was in full swing with 50/50 raffles and cold beverages being sold in the stands. West Sayville was ahead of the field by 2 points and the magic number would prove to be an eight as C Ladder got underway. Islip took the course and finished with the call of “General Judges” echoing from the PA system. After the Wolves’ Ladder was inspected, the C Truck was taken into the pits to be weighed and inspected so the contest could continue. The East Islip Guzzlers and Port Washington Road Runners would both find 8.99’s to make their way into the top 5. With times in the 9’s and up making their way on and off the scoreboard, West Hempstead would stop the clock with a time of 8.91. With four teams on the scoreboard, a time of 9.08 by West Sayville would briefly appear on the scoreboard before Central Islip took their shot. As the Hoboes finished their climb the call for the “General Judges” once again came from the arch! After Carle Place landed their ladder outside the safety zone, the inspection of Central Islip’s equipment was completed and the top 5 were announced: Tied for 4th place receiving 1.5 points each East Islip and Port Washington, 3rd place with 3 points West Hempstead, 2nd place with 4 points and a time of 8.80 Islip and in 1st place with 5 points and a new State Record time of 8.71 the Central Islip Hoboes!

With the ladder contests over the Wolves and Hoboes were tied at 10 points apiece and the Dutchmen were following closely at 8 points. A miss at the hydrant at the start of C Hose by Islip, would cost the Wolves their first points of the day. Just off pace of their state record set in Main-Transit last year; East Islip would quickly take a time of 12.12 to take the lead in the contest. Port Washington would come in at 12.53 before the Roslyn Highlanders found a time of 12.79 and it was now clear a low 12 was going to be needed to place in this contest. The Hempstead Yellow Hornets managed to slide in above Roslyn with a 12.72, which would hold on for the hosts’ only point of the day. The North Lindenhurst Piston Knockers would round out the first 5 with a time of 12.90 to keep Copiague out with their 12.94 but would also soon be eliminated from the contest by the Westerners time of 12.19. Roslyn which had held on in the top 5 since the beginning of the contest would get knocked out by Central Islip as they tripped the target at 12.17. This gave the Hoboes their first lead in the overall standing for the day but a few teams were still in striking distance as the call to move the equipment was made. The Islip Wolves came out strong with a time of 7.89 trying to earn back their lead as the B Hose contest got underway. Deer Park, East Islip and East Farmingdale would all miss the scoreboard running overtimes before New Hyde Park would grab a time of 7.94. With two “7’s” on the board, Roslyn would find a time of 8.76 to find the third sport on the scoreboard. The next “8” to come in would by Westbury with an 8.08 and Hempstead would fill in the fifth spot with an 8.98. With a low “8” or better needed now to place, Copiague would find a time of 8.12 to unseat the Yellow Hornets. The Highlanders would get knocked out by West Hempstead and a time of 8.30 but West Sayville would trip the target at 7.99 to slide into third. After the Hoboes failed to place in the contest, Islip would come out of the contest ahead by 1 point at 15. West Sayville would be sitting at 11 points but as far as the rest of the top 5 it was still anyone’s game. FD Rant News Volume 2 Edition 13

It was little after 3pm as Islip tripped the first target in Efficiency to earn a time of 8.74. With a couple stumbles keeping the next few teams in the “9’s” or higher, Lindenhurst would run an 8.96 to get into the “8’s” and shortly later Port Washington turned in a time of 8.85. Hicksville would see the scoreboard for the first time since ladders, with a run of 8.76 before a few more fumbles on the track would keep the field from joining the top 5. North Lindenhurst would step up their game jumping on to the scoreboard, also for the first time since ladders with a time 8.25. With five teams on the scoreboard a tying time of 8.76 by Bay Shore would tie the Hicks and take the Snails out of the running. West Hempstead would turn in a time of 8.81 but would find themselves on the outside when Central Islip stopped the clocks at 8.65. This would put the Wolves and Hoboes 18 points apiece and the Knockers were now in striking distance. This proves that with a large amount of teams running that a few points in ladders could make a difference in any ones day on the track. West Sayville would now have to grab a few points to keep their day alive and the race for 4th and 5th were still up for anyone to grab. Motor Pump was about to start and with only 10 seconds to find the target there was no margin for error. Islip quickly proved this when they narrowly missed overtime with a 9.69 and now would have a long wait for buckets, as their time would not hold on. East Islip would quickly show how it was done when the tripped the target at 6.52 and Lindenhurst would find the next “6” with their time of 6.86. Roslyn would earn their only points of the day when they got a piece of the target at 6.71. Westbury would join the top 5 with a time 6.83 before North Lindenhurst would raise the bar coming in with a 6.36 they would now sit on top of the scoreboard. As they day had gone on different teams had competed wearing St. James jerseys to show their support for their brothers and sister not on the track this season but as Henrietta came off the truck during pump wearing the Wildcats jerseys the crowd stood and cheered. Henrietta a team that is truly family to St. James may not have made the top 5 but their show of support was probably the biggest statement of what being part of this racing family is all about. As the contest continued Bay Shore would unseat the Snails but Central Islip would take the lead not only in the event but in the overall standings with a time of 6.18

. Mathematically coming into Buckets, Islip would be the only team in reach of the Hoboes but the race through the remaining three spots would now have five teams looking to grab as many points as they could. Islip would take the course first and quickly filled the barrel but as the contest continued one of their buckets was tested and found to be out of tolerance causing them to be disqualified from the event. East Islip would come in at 22.93 to set the mark for the remaining teams. New Hyde Park would put a 25.70 on the board trying to grab 5th place overall. A time of 23.21 would put North Lindenhurst into the top 5 but now would have to see if they would take 3rd or be pushed out. West Hempstead would fill the barrel in 21.70 taking the lead in the event and now would be behind the Knockers in the overall standings. A strong bucket team Main-Transit would steal a few points when they put up their time of 22.38. West Sayville’s 25.89 would miss the mark set by the Termites before Central Islip would take the line. With Islip out of the contest the Hoboes had taken the championship but did not hold back. As the light turned red and the call hold up went out, a brief pause came before the call for the “GENRAL JUDGES” was announced. The Central Islip Hoboes cheered as they had now become the 2013 NY State Motorized Champions and had now set a new state bucket record of 19.72!
