LOCATION & BACKGROUND

Ordnance Accessories Factory Ordnance accessories factory,was once a mountain artillery force during the period of Japanese occupation. After the retrocesion of Taiwan,the Taiwanese army received the site as an armory.The site is currently a vacant land,and temporary used as a parking lots. Located at the CBD of Tainan City, it is surrounded by lots of important public facilities, including Tainan train station,National Cheng-Kung University and many histrical sites.

POTENTIAL The target of this project is to drive the development of Tainan.As the city scale, most of the education, commerce and the resource located at the CBD ; however, the primary industrial areas distributed in outskirts, and has little interaction.

We came up an idea that we can use the location advantage of our site to promote industry-academy cooperation.

STRATEGY

Our site has great location and transportation advantage.It is close to core commercial area of Tainan.and it is right next to National Cheng-Kung University,which is one of the best university of Taiwan that holds many academic conferences a year. Besides,Tainan was once the capital of Taiwan,so that there are lots of historical sites scattered in the city,With great educational as well as tourism resources, it has potential to develope MICE industry,which contains meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. There are hundreds of SME and factories in Tainan.An international exhibition center will promote economic development and attract incentive tour as well. In additions, most important conventions and exhitions last more than two days, so that a hotel and some shopping centers will be necessary. We think that the vacant parking lot is able to transform into a catalyst of urban regernation of Tainan,

MARKET ANALYSIS We analysed the most frequently-used space for exhibitions and conventions,and classified them in four types and seven functions.A multifunctionall exhibition and convention center containing with the seven functions is what we want to put in out site.

Kaohsiung harbor was one of the major port around the world in the 20th century.There were lots of warehouses and factories set up nearby the port area during its heyday.However, due to economic transformation, the throughput of the port fell dromaticaly and most of factories relocated, so that Kaohsiung cith government try to tranform the harbor into a tourism port. Our site, Penglai warehouse, is one of vacant warehouses located beside the pier ,and surround by a couple of tourist attractions, including the Pier-2 Art Center,which was also transformed from warehouses,and the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center. SITE ANALYSIS Our site is so closed to the Pier-2 Art Center that it takes vistors on ly five minutes to walk here.We think it will be interesting to link the two places and transfom them into a design park.Besides,our site has a good transportation location,which is easy to approach by vehicles and MRT. There are also many open space around the area, at the southeast side of our site is a big park, which will be great for some outdoor activities and exhibitions.

We did a customer base analysis for the Pier-2 Art Center,and found that most vistors are females and most of them are under 30.Besides, approximately half of vistors come by public transportation,and one forth of them come by scooters.

Site TRANSPORTATION


SITE PLAN Since the magnificent sea view and the LRT station is at south,We put the main entrance of the building here.And the secondary entrance for drive people is located at the north side,where link to a parking lot. Then,considering that the original building is quite enclosed and shady,and the inner space is dispersed, we think it better to broke the some of wall to improve lighting and ventilation. Besides, it will be interesting to set a courtyard in the middle of the building which could also contribute the ecological environment.

FUNCTION We hope to make the new art center different from the Pier-2 Art Center.We found that most exhibitions and activities in the Pier-2 Art Center are static demonstrations; therefore, we think a deigital art center may be more attractive. On account of the vistors ages are beyond 30 ,we choose five major entertainment forms that are popular with young people and children,including graphic design,photographic,vedio,movi e and 4D sensory experience to put into the center.

THE SPONGE CITY Overall Review Planning Project of Rende District

LOCATION Rende District is located at south-west of Taiwan and is traversed north-south by freeway with the interchange set at the middle of urban area.Within 20 minutes of driving distance to the C.B.D.,it is an important industrial zone of Tainan city.

PROBLEM Flooding

Due to the low-lying and poor drainage,floods are the main disasters in Rende. More than 50% of land is flooding-potential,and especially the riverside of Sanye River where factories distributed is the more severe area.In the last five years, the floods causing by typhoon is so serious that the average flooding depth is up to 100 cm and lasting for 4 days.

A big storm brings almost 5,533,140 m of water.

but certain capacity is only about1,746,249 m...

The interchange not only gives Rende convenient transportation, but also brings serious traffice jams.During rush hours the LOS is even below E. Besides, large amount of trucks from the factories impacting both rode safty and living quality make the problem even worse.

Green space makes up over 50% of land in Rende. While most of green space is composed of farmland, There are only few parks and green paths in the area.

FLOOD HAZARD

The annual rainfall of Rende is around 2050.3 mm.Due to the low-lying and poor drainage,floods are the main disasters in Rende.According to flooding potential analysis,especially the riverside of Sanye River is the most vulnerable area. 0.3-1 mm

Over the past deacde,Rende experienced steady population growth. Currently there are approximatel 70,000 people living in Rende Dist and about 30,000 people residing in urban area. And according to projection analysis , there will be around 3,2000 people in urban area in 2030。

Rende’s economy is based primarily on industry. It is an important industrial city in Tainan and about one fifth factories distribute here.According to the statistics, there are 1,215 factories in Rende in 2010, which mainly engaged in metal,plastic and machine manufacturing .

PROJECT REVIEW Comparing actual land use in 2010 and the land use plan made 1o years ago,we found that Rende district is lack of park. In additions,the supply of residence is still adequate ; however, the develpoment of commerence and industrial zone is below expectations.

Beside,by setting green belts as well as bicycle routes,we try to organize green and eco-friendly urban environment andreduce pollution from factories.

LOCATION & BACKGROUNG Yintong community is located in West Central Dist in the C.B.D of Tainan.West Central Dist is one of the earliest-developed area in Taiwan ; therefore,there are lots of historical sites scattered in the district,such as Chihkan Tower and Tainan Confuciue Temple. The site used to be a little parking lot for neighborhoods. After consultations, the land owner agree to provide it for public use and the owner of nearby house also allow us to do some change on the facade.

Considering that there are also many reataurants and traditonal snack shops set around our site. In addition,alleies in Yintong community are about four-meter-wide, which is very suitable for walking. We hope to creat a space that may attract pedestrians.

The chief of community hope the site could become a landmark , so we think it would be great to make it more colorful and attractive. Public Art

Local people hope the site could become a place that encourage interations.A park will be a good space for community activities; besides, we come up with the idea that we could design a map in the site, so that it may initiate conversations between inhabitants and visters.

LOCATION & BACKGROUNG Nanliao and Liziyuan villages located in Baihe and Dongshan district in the northeast part of Tainan.Both area’s economy is based primarily on agriculture,the main farm produce in Nanliao was orange and that most people in Liziyuan were coffee farmers. The goal of the scheme is attracting tourist flows to the villages.Therefore , we plan to transformed an empty warehouse and an obsolete school into two display centres with multiple functions, including selling specialities and providing travel information.
