Cibadak area is well known for its Chinatown and culinary. However, the area is now currently experiencing the urban decay -- a process by which a previously functioning part of a city, falls into disrepair. So this project aimed to revive the downtown areas in order to maintain the continuity of urban life both socially and economically.
Site Issue
Urban Decay The need of rejuvenation in a dense & degraded area.
Connectivity Connecting a densely populated area.
No Vegetation There is no vegetation in the area.
Permeable Circulation Preserve the arcades and provide comfortable access for pedestrian.
Urban Oasis Provide a green space in the middle of a densely populated area.

hunian laswi

Hunian Laswi is a middle to upper vertical residence in the city of Bandung. This apartment has 348 units; 176 studio units, 114 one-bedroom units and 58 twobedroom units. Hunian Laswi is located at Jl. Laswi, which is a fairly busy road segment. This location is strategic enough to be used as an apartment, because it is located in the vicinity of residents’ housing, on a busy road. Design Concept The problem in urban areas is that it is quite arid and has a lot of pollution, including on Jl. This Laswi. So, the biophilic design approach is used in designing this lifestyle center. The biophilic design theory says that humans will feel more comfortable when they are around nature. The biophilic design approach is applied to landscapes, facades and building interiors.
Visual Connection with Nature Balconies equipped with planter boxes and green roofs provide visual access for residents to natural elements.

Complexity & Order The wavy-shape balcony and facade present an interesting complexity to the eye.
Material Connection with Nature Most of the building’s façade uses wood, which reflects local materials that can support the creation of a sense of place.

balcony watering system. Water from the plant box on each balcony is flown back to the plant box on the balcony two floors below. So that water does not accumulate on one balcony, and water can return to the ground. In addition, this also makes watering plants easier, because it can be watered only from the top floor or roof.

Visual Connection with Nature With open circulation, all visitors can get visual access to the courtyard plaza in the middle of the building.
Dynamic & Diffuse Light Dynamic lighting is reflected in the shadows created when light penetrates the wooden lattices into the building.
Thermal & Airflow Variability Because circulation is open, air and light can easily go in and out of this building.
Material Connection with Nature Most of these building materials use wood, which reflects local ecological materials that can support the creation of a sense of place.
Massing Transformation The mass of the building initially comes from three circular shapes, and then deformed and connected by curved lines to achieve unity.

sundara

Derived from Sanskrit, Sundara means beautiful. The name also describes this hostel, which carries a local and open concept amidst the hustle and bustle of downtown Bandung, beautifully packaged in this 4-storey hostel. Not only serves as a low-budget hostel targeting young people, Sundara Hostel also functions as a cafe on its ground floor.
Design Concept This building is designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation. Apart from supporting the sustainability movement, the design also resulted in Sundara Hostel offering a unique space experience for its visitors and guests. There are many voids in this building, to ensure good air and light circulation in the narrow space.
The materials used are wood, concrete, roster, and vegetation.
