CASA PARCO DEL MULINO Experimental house · Livorno · Italy

Project for the Italian Association of People with Down syndrome – 2018 project

team

House for people with Down syndrome to be realized without heating and cooling systems. sundaymorning · architecture office www.sundaymorning.it

6

Casa Parco del Mulino

This house is designed for people with Down syndrome in lack of familiar support. We imagined for them a place for sharing everyday life in domestic and comfortable spaces, close to the place where they can have a daily working routine.

The ground floor hosts the living room, the kitchen and a service area; on the upper floor, more private, six suites look through the beautiful olive trees in the park.

Casa Parco del Mulino

Casa Parco del Mulino

This project is the first of its kind in Italy and aims to be experimental in the widest meaning of the word. It encompasses several levels of sustainability:

Ethical for the innovative experience of sharing a house by people with specific needs

Enviromental for a nearly zero energy building with no heating and cooling system

Cultural for promoting positive sinergies for the integration of people with down syndrome in the society

VILLA CURIEL Boutique hotel · Castagneto Carducci · Italy

Private client – 2016 project

Renovation of a villa in Castagneto Carducci converted in a boutique hotel; design of custom furniture, lamps and corporate identity. sundaymorning · architecture office www.sundaymorning.it

Villa Curiel

Villa Curiel

Villa Curiel is located on the top of the hill of Castagneto Carducci with a beautiful view on the fields and the sea in front of it.

Two twin apartments built in the 70's by the family of the current owner are converted in a boutique hotel with 10 rooms, a sauna and a wide common area including the hall, a living room, the kitchen and a breakfast room with a terrace.

13

14

Villa Curiel

The design spreads from architecture to furniture - with a specific attention to the lighting elements of the common areas - to the corporate identity of the hotel.

Private client – 2017 project

Renovation of a villa and project for three pavilions in the pinewood of Marina di Castagneto Carducci.

18

Villa X

Villa X

The Villa was built between 1958 and 1960 inside the pinewood of Marina di Castagneto Carducci, as a single family house for holidays.

After the renovation, it will be divided in four apartments, each one organised on two levels, with the kitchen and the living room on the ground floor and two bedrooms upstairs, overlooking on a portion of the pinewood as private garden.

19

20

Villa X

In the same portion of the pinewood, three small pavilions will be built as an extension of the villa. One is a swimming pool, with a covered pool house, the other two are small apartments for guests. They are designed as solid blocks located informally amongst the dunes, like abandoned stones or monads, with smooth surfaces and sloping roofs to let the pine needles slide down naturally.

CASA DA CULTURA A civic center for the city of Cantanhede, Portugal

Architecture competition - 2017 project

Renovation and extension of the old civic center in Cantanhede.

Casa da Cultura

Casa da Cultura

The opportunity of the renovation of the civic center allows to think the architectural project as a generator of meaningful spaces in the city and the design of the building corresponds to the design of the urban spaces.

25

26

Casa da Cultura

The configuration of architectural spaces relies on a dual system, made of transversal crossings through the building and views towards the city.

Both of them allow the continuity between interior and exterior spaces, and consequently, between the visitor and the city itself.

Topography of the limit

Strategy

Changing the topography of the transversal section allows to visually connect with the river and the city from a new point of view, while the visual margin of the railway is partially hidden.

Buildings are in continuity with this system: the public space continues inside them and the topographic alteration of the exterior is reflected in the articulation of the sections. Anyway they maintain their formal autonomy.

Topography of the limit

The scale of the project suggests an interpretation of architecture as a built landscape

33

34

Topography of the limit

The building of a phisical model allowed to better read the urban structure in the three dimensions and understand and examine the relations the project extabilishes with the sorrounding, in terms of form and proportions.

38

Beneath the trees

Architectonical elements are positioned beside three margins of the project area.

On one hand they separate the inner space from pollution and noise sources, on the other hand they redefine the park's spaces and restore the central importance of most valuable trees.

From a formal perspective, this work is a research on the possibilities of linear shapes to generate activities and density on two-dimensional space.
