WILDFIRE CLEAN-UP RESPONSE

Lahaina & Kula Fires Maui, Hawaii 2023 - Current

Maui Fire Clean-up (Ongoing)

• On August 8th a fire on the island of Maui began after a snapped powerline set dry grass below aflame

• Residents of the island had to quickly evacuate as the fire spread

• Although the fire has ended several months ago the clean-up process on the island still continues

Role of FDS in the Clean-up

• Provided air monitoring equipment to support the clean-up efforts

• Performed equipment set up and assistance on the ground in Maui

• Used the FDS Connect® platform to provide real-time data and alerts

• Sent data to the AirNow.gov Fire and Smoke Map

TRAIN DERAILMENT

East Palestine, Ohio 2023 - Current

Train Derailment Clean-up (Ongoing) FDS Field Support

• On February 3, 2023 a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, OH

• The derailment released the compound vinyl chloride into the air and soil

• Government agencies came in to assist with the clean up of the derailment which is currently ongoing

• Field Data Solutions supports the USEPA who is using the FDS Connect® real-time platform for data collection and alert notifications

• Deploys OSHA 1910.120 certified staff for response efforts

• Calibrates and assembles on-site monitoring equipment for particulates, air sampling, and water quality

• Trains EPA on equipment utilization

• Assists in daily excavation and removal actions

• Provides mobilization of additional monitoring instruments, sampling supplies, PPE, and decontamination equipment

OIL SPILL

Keystone Pipeline, Mile Post 14 2022 - 2023

Mile Post 14 Oil Spill Release

• Keystone pipeline oil spill occurred December 7th, 2022 in Washington County, KS

• FEI provided the Defiant FROG-5000™ portable gas chromatograph to monitor BTEX chemicals near incident site

• FEI has also provided sorbent booms, water quality monitors and additional instrumentation to limit contamination

What is START?

• Acronym for Superfund Technical Assessment & Response Team

• FEI is the primary equipment provider for USEPA region 5 since 2014 and both region 3 & 8 since 2020

• In 2015 FEI provided benzene-monitoring equipment and personal protective apparel for the Argo tank barge response in Lake Erie, OH

• FEI’s ability to promptly deploy monitoring equipment and supplies in incident situations allows continued support for USEPA’s responses
