The mayor’s objective is to strengthen neighborhoods by improving gathering spaces, generating economic activity, and revitalizing key community corridors (Garcetti, Great Streets Initiative). Our Implementation of this objective is to reimage Hollywood Boulevard’s streetscape to preserve the unique features of Hollywood, renect the character of the area and community, activate the public realm, enhance local culture, encourage equitability, support alternative transportation, address the business improvement district and produce green spaces for the local and visiting public. We hope the ideas in the proposal could be an inspiration for the Great Streets Initiative. What follows is a description of our design proposal, and methodologies.

Although Hollywood Blvd has a lot of good qualities to make a great street, Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood Blvd. there are problems like congestion, poor maintenance and giant parking lot taking up too much space. What we need to do for the physical environmentSunset is Blvd. Sunset Blvd. to preserve the qualities the street already have and try to bring or improve the qualities needed for Hollywood, like more walkability and better maintenance, Hollywood Fwy to become a great street.

DESIGN PROCESS Renewal Of The Cement Plant
Formulation of the Main Structure
The cement plant is the main existing structure on the site. It indicates the time of Industrilization.
The site is located in the rural-urban continuum of Guangzhou City, which has an advanced economy and well-protected environments. A s t h e u r ba n i z a t i o n d e ve l o p e d , t h e c i t y 's environment is threatened by pollutions. There was a cement plant which brought industrial wastes into the lake. To improve water quality and lakeside environment, the site is planned to be an open space . Thus, the design goal is to find a way to achieve symbiosis of the Nature 1 (things exist naturally) and Nature 2 (things created by human). We name this status as Nature 1.5.

ACTIVITY ANALYSIS The Outdoor Activities in One Year Spring winter
The design highlights the integration of different functions and activities, in order to attract people of different ages and careers. At the same time, we analyzed different outdoor activities in one year and provide relevant spaces for them, to make the site popular all year around.

ECOLOGICAL DESIGN STRATEGY Rainwater collection system
Micro-climate of the Lake In the daytime, the sun warms earth’s surface and causes the rise of warm airs. The cold air over the water moves toward the mainland and fomulates cool breezes.
Utilize the slope to conduct the water and use the rainwater collection design , such as permeable pavement and ecological umbrella.
The cool breezes could be introduced into the gray spaces by the doublelayer structure.
The hydrophilic plant at the riverside would buffer and filter the rain water.
Roof Structure
Overall Wind Direction The double-layer structure prevents people from direct sunlight, on the other hand, the plants on the roof could absorb the solar radiation and keep the tempreture from being too hot.
Grass and shrub are planted on the roof and vertical surfaces which could effectively absorb the heat, cle an the air and reduce the noises.
Meanwhile, some holes bring the sunlight into the buildings which reduce the electricity cost in the day time.

The Chimney Effect In summer, the tempreture of the internal space could be high, and holes on the roof cause Chimney Effect that pump the cool air into the inner spaces.
