DINING AREA Upholstered chairs in a floral fabric add texture and contrast. Chair backs upholstered in Mulberry Home Floral Fantasy Woodsmoke, £165m, Jane Clayton
transformed into a spacious and elegant family home. ‘The layout is what makes the house work for us because there’s room for everybody and every occasion,’ says Louise.
‘The colour scheme works beautifully, too,’ she continues. ‘Adrienne has put so much time and effort into it that you barely notice the change from one room to another –everything flows. I love the kitchen-diner and particularly the clever skylight over the dining table –for the additional light it allows in, it was definitely worth the extra cost and effort.’
In order to create a study for Louise and Ed as well as a family room, the couple decided to excavate the basement to provide the additional space. ‘There’s a wine cellar and another spare bedroom here, too,’ says Louise, ‘but it doesn’t feel at all squashed as the ceilings are a good height.’
On the ground floor, Louise’s love of striking wallpaper is evident, with one of the two cloakrooms adorned with de Gournay’s giant fish design. ‘Adrienne has created a jewellery box of colour and texture, combining the vibrant wallpaper with black tiles and a marble washbasin,’ enthuses

Louise. ‘It’s such a contrast to the rest of the ground floor and I love how such a practical space can also be funky.’
Upstairs however, is a restful interior where the bathrooms are plentiful and the bedrooms luxurious. ‘I wanted the bedrooms to be soft, calm and relaxing but with a good deal of storage for us all,’ says Louise. ‘I stole the idea for the dressing room from a friend after a visit to her house, but it was Adrienne who sourced everything from mirrors and lamps to bedside tables to complete the overall look. We worked well together because she knew from past experience what I like, such as the super-soft carpets and the Dupion silk feature wall. She’s really brought the house to life.’
It’s clear that all of the Harvey family are delighted with the decision to upsize their home but for Louise, the fact that the project was plain sailing is what’s made it all the more worthwhile. ‘I have friends who have project-managed themselves and years later they still have unfinished rooms and wires sticking out of the walls,’ she says. ‘I’m just so delighted that it’s finished and, best of all, that it’s been stress-free.’
