02. elements of forms

A form development

Brief

To physically analysis material and forms keeping in mind the properties of the materials and later conceptualise it as space.

2.Elements of Form

Abstract

The aim was to exploit the existing physical properties of plastic and achieve a doubly curved surface by generative process

Apparatus

A 5x5 cm grid was made using mdf, nut and bolts which was used in 2d experiments.

Introduction

Thermoplastics are the material which gets deformed at certain elevated temperature and solidifies upon cooling. Utilising theabove mentioned property of plastics, heat was applied in different ways. Different types of thermoplastics were used for the experiment - OHP sheet, acrylic sheet and polycarbonate sheet. the experiment was done in 2 parts. One where heat was applied on a 2d surface and other on 3d surface.

Different thermoplastics used:

OHP Sheet Acrylic Sheet Polycarbonate Sheet

2.Elements of Form

In 2D exploration doubly curve surface was not achieved.

Constant- heating temperature, level from ground

Variable- In some size of skills, In some heating area and In some both

Observation - Size of slit is directly proportional to curves and height was not achieved.

2.Elements of Form

Form -1

Constant - heating temperature , 2D structure, height of nails , size of sheet

Variable - height of heat gun and angle of heat

Observations - size of slits is directly proportional to curve, i.e. smaller the slit lesser the curve

Form -2

Constant - heating temperature , 3D structure, from ground, size of sheet

Variable - height of heat gun and angle of heat

Observations - more stable, dynamic and doubly curved surface was achieved.

Brief

To find a problem and solution for a space which also caters with aesthetics

03.

3. surface intergated aesthetics

ABOUT SITE : GLSID

GLS Institute of Design is a prominent Institute under GLS University, Ahmedabad offering Design courses pertaining to various creative fields. Design parameter: And for surface integration, i chose the staircase wall as that wall makes everyone feel that the space is obstructive and through surface integration i can make staircase more light.

Shifted from graffiti to, more explorations which looked bulking and shifted to continuity as myspace looks obstructive .

3. surface intergated aesthetics

Concept :

As it is design college and being a design student we can experience that what does the form looks like and can feel about the form, and taking the front face of the building , which has rectangular form but its looks like an obstructive block and it is plane surface so, thinking about the design i thought to to make that surface light by using the material like string or wire and giving it continue pattern or showing direction / way of the string and adding colours will make that surface more light.

Material and technique :

Here main element is string and for prototype MDF , nails and threads are used and if we these explorations are taken ahead for 1:1 then instead of nails wooden nails will be used for the support of the string, After all these exploration, i came up with this model which is in the scale 1:12 .

So tread was 10” (25.4 cm)- now 21 mm, Riser was 6” (15.2cm ) now 12 mm

The height was 9’ (274.3) now 228 mm

Length was 12’ (365.7 cm) now 304mm

4. Octal (material and process)

The structure of the chair, with its octangle metal frame & ergonomically angled, fitted toughened glass into metal frame by applying silicone . Adding this piece of furniture to your patio/pergola or any exterior space will increase aesthetic value .

Glass film Toughened glass
Metal frame 650 mm
800mm “Oyster inspired chair”. Converted organic form of oyster into linear form. Contemporary & modern in style
