01 CGMP FACILITY

Pancreatic Islet Transplantation The success of the HPAP (human pancreas analysis program) in the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes has led the research group to pursue a BLA for an FDA approved aseptic processing facility where pancreatic islet cells can be harvested for the beneďŹ t of a new host.

[left]: research lab — [right] cleanroom

Cleanroom Enviornment The facility will support a new ISO-7 cleanroom and associated support facilities in compliance with cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. The cleanroom suite of 2,136 SF will include cold and clean storage, gowning in and out, and maintenance support facilities. Separated from the cleanroom functions, but associated with the islet cell processes will be a QC Lab and Research Lab.

what is cgmp? CGMP refers to the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations enforced by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CGMPs provide for systems that assure proper design, monitoring, and control of manufacturing processes and facilities. Adherence to the CGMP regulations assures the identity, strength, quality, and purity of drug products by requiring that manufacturers of medications adequately control manufacturing operations. This includes establishing strong quality management systems, obtaining appropriate quality raw materials, establishing robust operating procedures, detecting and investigating product quality deviations, and maintaining reliable testing laboratories. This formal system of controls at a pharmaceutical company, if adequately put into practice, helps to prevent instances of contamination, mixups, deviations, failures, and errors. This assures that drug products meet their quality standards.*

MATERIALITY The cleanroom will be constructed of prefabricated modular wall and ceiling elements. Both cleanroom wall and ceiling panels are fiinished with white uPVC-coated galvanized sheet steel. All Interior finishes will be washable, non-shedding, chemically resistant, and detailed for regular sanitization processes required for safety goals. Cascading air pressurization design from ISO-7 cleanroom lab through ISO-8 gowning vestibules works in conjunction with airborne particulate size monitoring, analysis, and alarming to maintain ISO 14644.1-2015 required levels of cleanliness required for a aseptic processes.

03 CITY OF TENTS One of the largest annual gatherings in the world takes place in the valleys of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The relatively small city of Mecca is in constant race with the higher demands to accommodate and move pilgrims more efďŹ ciently and safely. Our approach to this challenge is focused on two main components: decent accommodation and efďŹ cient circulation. With consideration to the increasing number of pilgrims, the design addresses the higher demand through the following approaches: stacking vertically to relief stress on the land and creating automated mass-travel systems.

Existing Conditions The current permanent, tent structures at Mina are reaching the end of their lifespan. Moreover, vehicular trafďŹ c of pilgrim buses are overtaking the few, narrow roads of Mina valley creating trafďŹ c congestion and increased risk of accidents.

04 TEMPE AQUIFER PROGRAM (TAP) Adaptive Reuse The project is located in Tempe, AZ on the site of the former Hayden Flour Mill and functions to create a dialogue on how water will be sustainability managed for the future. The building is envisioned as a medium for the transformation of energy. Water, heat, light, and wind are transformed by the building into clean water, cooling, electric power, and passive ventilation.
