CHANGES Adaptable Residence 2021 Niterói, Brazil Architect: Fernanda Marx 110m²
about This house has been designed for a young couple who are planning to grow their family and retire at the same place. The layout is flexible and can be adapted for different uses and numbers of occupants. The open plan and barrier-free spaces encourage ease of movement. Extensions can be easily done since the project is modular.
The main materials are concrete, wood, glass, and plasterboard - for greater flexibility. As the installations do not run inside the external walls, they can be demolished and built as needed.

Elderly day-care and Clinics 2018 Niterói, Brazil 1.675m² Architect: Fernanda Marx
about The building is divided into two main areas, the clinics, and the daycare. Both sectors have a courtyard. Dead-end corridors and long distances were avoided to facilitate locomotion. The design privileges the community areas since it’s located in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, which the sense of community is important for the locals.

about The restoration regain the original form of an 1800's chapel (called church by the inhabitants) located on an Island of Rio de Janeiro. An extensive and careful historical analysis was made. The main changes are in the annexed building which was constructed later after the church, the bell, and the main facade.

Designing for Adaptable Futures Proposal 2012 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Architects: Fernanda Marx, Fabiano Revaglia, Tiago Mendonça, Karen Novaes, Liebert Rodrigues
about Based on practices developed by the low-income residents of the social housings of Rio, the goal was to formulate a set of strategies that could enable and encourage the expansion of housing but in a neatly way. Taking advantage of the existing structure and implantation of the PAC Manguinhos, social housing in Rio de Janeiro, the project allows the enlargement when the occupants need it.
