MARIA FERNANDA TARR Resume/Portfolio
boca chica hotel Boca Chica was a 1950s Hotel renovated into a Boutique Hotel for the Habita Group in collaboration with architect Fernando Romero. The iconic hotel was an obligatory stop for the Hollywood crowd of the 50s, the design intent was to conserve the elegant vintage feel while mixing in elements of contemporary design. who

Part of the concept was to maintain the glamour and feel of the 1950s while staying true to the hotel’s identity and well established fame in Acapulco. Pool Area/Umbrella Design/Pool Area Floor Plan. 3
Graphic elements in textiles and wall screenings, as well as color palettes, neon lights and kitsch touches from the Acapulco area inspired moments of the interior design and branding.

CCT CENTRO CULTURAL TAMAYO The Tamayo Museum in Mexico City organized a competition for the extension of their existing gallery and storage space. Rojkind Arquitectos in collaboration with BIG, came up with the winning proposal based on showcasing the art and the process of exhibition. The concept grew around exposing the operative part of the Museum to visitors, guiding them on their journey through Tamayo's life line, before arriving finally at the main gallery.

Bath box . residential space This residential project focused on remodeling the main bathroom, the original layout did not fit the client's needs and the design needed updating. The entire bathroom was dismantled and fake ceiling demolished to increase heights and open up the space. The clients requested a steam shower, giving the platform to design a clear division between wet and dry areas. With this premise in mind we highlighted the separation by inserting the bathing area into an extruded volume, the defining feature of the space. who

El comedero . restaurant The project was designed in the ground floor of a 1930's building. The two ground level apartments would be transformed and redesigned in order to fit the architectural program. The concept and branding were based on a dark satire where half the restaurant would emulate an industrial slaughter house and the other a rustic pig feedlot. who

country living. housing Design and construction of two weekend homes for a family of five. The project called for two separate houses on the same land, that would look like a single house from the outside. The site was steep and filled with trees, conditions that led to terraced massing and an elevated central courtyard. who

Shintai . Restaurant Interiors project for a Teppanyaki Restaurant chain. The existing space had basic finishes and exposed plumbing and electrical. The restaurant’s identity was dated and did not attract the younger crowd. The concept was designed around the name of the chain in particular the word “Shinto” bringing every element and branding image together. who

Shinto: A religion native to Japan, characterized by veneration of nature spirits, air, water, earth and fire. By bringing these elements into the space, we developed the idea that every teppanyaki table would become a sacred hut, a private Shinto Temple. 25
