Topography 6
My fire station is a trail head. The south mountain site has two existing trail entrance locations. By placing the fire station directly on the trail and making it become part of that existing system it allows for its current users to mingle with the new fire fighters that inhabit the site. By separating the programs of the station, it allows to play more into the idea of the station becoming a trail head. By doing that it makes more destinations in the trail system and gets the fire fighters out into that shared environment. Between the three major programmatic buildings there would be a shared feature that would connect them from more than the trail below. By physically connecting the buildings with a fabric shade structure it would break up the heights of the buildings while creating an interesting shaded path below. It would also have the benefit of capturing the air flowing down the mountain.

Without Solar
With Solar The area on the roof can realistically support 369 panels. Each panel can create 370w an hour. In order to completely cancel it out the need in a day in the 5 hours of direct sulight a total of 433 panels would be needed. However only 111 would be needed to offest the largest portion of the day reducing the cost to more managable levels.

With Solar The area on the roof can realistically support 100 panels. Each panel can create 370w an hour. In order to completely cancel it out the need in a day in the 5 hours of direct sulight a total of 41 panels would be needed. However only 20 would be needed to offest the largest portion of the day reducing the cost to more managable levels if not completely negate the annual cost.

Without Solar
With Solar The area on the roof can realistically support 162 panels. Each panel can create 370w an hour. In order to completely cancel it out the need in a day in the 5 hours of direct sulight a total of 110 panels would be needed. However only 60 would be needed to offest the largest portion of the day reducing the cost to more managable levels if not completely negate the annual cost.

With Solar The area on the roof can realistically support 42 panels. Each panel can create 370w an hour. In order to completely cancel it out the need in a day in the 5 hours of direct sulight a total of 41 panels would be needed. However only 20 would be needed to offest the largest portion of the day reducing the cost to more managable levels if not completely negate the annual cost. Plus since it is not in use all the time it should be reduced even more and be a net positive in certain times of the year.
