CAFFEX Business Park Project Details Use Commercial - Office Building Location Juanlindo Neighborhood 08 Street 27 and 28 Avenue San Pedro Sula, Honduras CT1100 Guided by the nature and language of the existing structure, the project presented a series of challenges in regards to space, organization, logic and aesthetic value. By superimposing a grid based on existing “lines of strength, a sense of coherence and functionality emanated giving way to a system of active and passive areas within the physical boundaries. Once this system was in place, the focus was directed towards the design of spaces that would satisfy the intrinsic nature of these spaces, while maintaining a keen sensibility to the aesthetic quality of the construct. The projected consisted of the following components: Bakery Cafeteria and Dining Center Coffee Micro-Roastery Education and Training Center Greenhouse and Organic Garden Grilling and Recreational Area Multi-functional Center

CAFFEX Cupping Laboratory Project Details Use Commercial - Coffee Cupping Laboratory Location Juanlindo Neighborhood 08 Street 27 and 28 Avenue San Pedro Sula, Honduras CT1100 Coffee cupping is the process by which coffee connoisseurs analyze and rate the quality of a specific coffee batch. This process is one that requires very controlled spatial conditions to enhance intensive concentration and acute sensibility to all the aromas, flavors, textures and sensations that a well-crafted cup of coffee can produce. Utilizing this necessity for discipline and immersion as the premise for iterative ideation, an elegant and minimalistic design was devised. A fervent perceptiveness to detail was infused in every aspect of the architecture. Every component was designed explicitly to serve only their respective elemental role in the space reinforcing once again the prudence and refinement aspired to. By isolating the more convoluted and loud area to a confined and sound-proof room, the cupping laboratory became a optimal stage for the appreciation of the craftsmanship behind the cultivation, roasting and brewing of one of nature delicacies.

CAFFEX Coffee Mill Office Project Details Use Factory - Coffee Mill Office Building Location CAFFEX Coffee Mill Km 4 South Boulevard El Progreso, Honduras YR3201 Further expounding on the intent to utilize responsibly nature’s elements and materials, the design generated was one that would express this sensibility to entropy intrinsic with our world. As a consequence of refurbishing two old shipping containers and combining these with “frugal” materials such as wood and concrete masonry unit blocks, a conscientious and functional design was achieved. By displacing the two containers ten feet in contrary direction from each other, the space was extended considerably supplementing the original intention to use what is available in the best manner possible. The spatial rationale of the design is one of compartmentalization and segregation based on the different programs that were to be included. Amongst these were an in situ coffee cupping and inspection laboratory, a transit/costumes office, a collaborative studio/conference room, two administrative offices and two exterior congregation spaces. The top terrace - one of the congregation spaces - serves to create an active connection between the human workforce/visits and the active natural material, creating in a metaphorical manner a constant human-nature conversation that fosters a greater appreciation for the product.

FIVARO Research and Design Office Project Details Use Factory - Apparel Industry Office Location Zip Bufalo Bldg 32 CA 05 Buffalo San Pedro Sula, Honduras CT1100 In the same manner that an architect searches for environments that trigger their imagination and lead them to that state of overflowing creativity, so too, an apparel designer must be enveloped in a space that enables him to enter that rhapsodic moment of intellectual expansion and imaginativeness. FIVARO is an American-based company whose expertise lies in the design and production of high-quality denim. Located at the heart of the washing and production area, the Research and Design office was intended to represent just that, the epitome of creativity contained in a room of iterative ideation. The architecture presents a rugged yet elegant faรงade with an interior with the utmost attention to detail. Massive wooden doors slide to connect the two main spaces - laborers offices and design studio - into an ample room to further cultivate the idea of collaborative design studio. The walls are covered with geometrical custom-made storage areas that display the different denims, once again stimulating the creative genius within each of the designers.

Subway Cafe Project Details Use Commercial - Restaurant and Cafe Location To be determined To be determined San Pedro Sula, Honduras CT1100 The idea of modular architecture came to mind in the initial stages of architectural iteration for the design of Subway Cafe. Throughout the developmental stages, the desire to respect natures fragility became a decisive element. Confronted with this binary condition, the design fused both concepts - modular architecture and renewable architecture into a singular concept. The hybridized conception would function and sustain the form of these two ideals while introducing its own unique character and presence. The enclosure of the architecture presents a composition of natural and industrial materials. This dichotomy utilizes the natural to create a raw, almost informal atmosphere while contrasting this through the industrial that exudes precision and compulsive control. Program-wise the edifice was generated to serve the purpose of an express service cafe. It is not a place to gather for an extended period of time but rather create synaptic social encounters to liberate themselves from their daily ordeals momentarily.

SDSU Women’s Soccer Stadium Project Details Use Education - University Sports Complex Location Jackrabbit Green South Dakota State University Brookings, South Dakota, USA 57006 From the beginning the intent was to create a lightweight structure that enabled the user to engage with the full experience of being in a soccer stadium. Under this premise the structure was designed to become an active propelling instrument in the viewers experience. This concept was achieved through a series of stacked bands in elevation and segregated sections in plan. In elevation, four horizontal band predominate: the ground, the elevated soccer platform, the lightweight enclosing structure and the horizon of the enclosure meeting the sky. In plan, three isolated sections strengthen the original intent. Two sections run parallel to the longer side of the field and extend from end-to-end on the site, each housing their respective programs. The third area exists on the East end of the site as a main entry point to the stadium. These moves have been coordinated to create a stadium that not only serves its inherent purpose of housing soccer games but also to allow for a wider variety of activities to occur. The lightweight structure was designed to create a self-sustaining system that is able to accommodate the programmatic elements required.

Rapid City Art Museum Project Details Use Assembly - Museum and Art Gallery Location Downtown Rapid City Rapid St and 7th St Rapid City, South Dakota, USA 57702 Standing as a savant giant in the midst of Rapid City’s mesh, the museum’s massive canopy is an invitation to all of those who covet for knowledge and silence. The columnar-walls supporting the canopy repeat more frequently as you approach the museum’s entry while acting as a reminiscence of the railroad industry and the tracks that run parallel to these pillars. The building’s materials – cast-in-place concrete, high performance glass and steel – work in harmony to create a serene and silent environment for artistic indulgence. The gallery spaces are composed of a grid of walls and columns which generate smaller, tranquil areas to abandon oneself in the intricacies of the art. Giacometti’s slender sculptures - the main exhibition - stand tall in a moat of gravel, overlooking to their smaller counterparts dancing on 4 blocks of fair-faced concrete in a gallery spaced designed as a reverence to a genius’ distorted view of humanity. To provide the purest expression of live art, a multi-use auditorium is located in underground level. The museum is an homage to the power of silence, the ability that the lack of audible expression has to communicate the most in the same manner that a beautiful painting speaks through its brush strokes. This museum, too, has a story to tell. p. 65
