about

Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, I was always very much aware that I’d eventually became an architect. As from very little, I have the perfect memory of drawing plans of ships, houses, castles and building them with my colorful lego box that still sits in my apartment for occasional days. Brought up in a very calm neighborhood in São Paulo, despite the fact that the city is one of the biggest and most chaotic in the entire globe, I have always enjoyed paying attention to the way people relate to their own spaces and also to the city that surrounds them. I have recently completed my 5-year professional bachelor degree (2013) and I am looking for an oportunity to continue exploring the possibilities in architecture and urbanism as a response to the world that we live nowadays, until I apply for my master program that will likely be connected to urbanism and urban design.

Considering the housing shortage for São Paulo added up to the prices that are increasing on a daily bases, the project proposes a new concept in living with smaller apartments and more collective spaces. Initally, several different concepts were tried, but the chosen idea was the boxes pilling up to create a new envelope that distinguishes itself from others. The apartments, considering that each one has an average size of 20 m2, have been thought in varios aspects to became extremely functional and yet spatious, whereas the commun space were designed to fullfil the demands of other possible uses that the users will have, such as laundry, co-working area, common living room, etc.

The transformation part will receive an art gallery, a restaurant, a club and a bar. The concept was to understand the maximum envelope possible and from there remove the part that could interfere with the facade as well as allow natural illumination for the offices. The program is addapted in this new boxes on top of the cinema, with materials and facade that relate to the historical building.

Type: Competition Team: Adam Kurdhal, Jo達o Vieira Costa, Fernando Paal Fernandes, Gabriel Spera Size: 7.000 m2 Location: S達o Paulo, Brazil Year: 2013 Status: Idea Project developed in Space Group for a competion of a housing building in the city of S達o Paulo. We have started from a regular, square shaped projection tower. The problem, though, was that this idea generates dwell- ings that are not interesting on the lower levels - poor views, noise, lack of light. With this premise in mind, the adopted concept was to rotate the bottom floors to generate a richer volumetry and dwellings that can either have small open terraces, green areas or skylights to make these apartments more interesting and increase their market value.

REGULAR TOWER Lower Floors are less interesting and the values decrease as it goes further down.

TWISTED TOWER Lower Floors became more interesting for allowing different possibilities, as well as a new face for architecture.

PROFFESIONAL PROJECTS

Nepal is known as one of the most interesting countries in the world; a reputation due mainly to its very unique culture, stunning sights, reli- gion and people. Famously, it is also home to a great variety of distinct landscapes idealy sited to adventure sports - a variety of activities which include trekking, mountain climbing and ski mountaineering are among the most important sources of income for the nepalese authorities. That said, the aim of this project is to provide shelter while considering all the peculiarities of nepalese weather and their vernacular techniques for hik- ers throughout a journey of intense workout and powerful spiritual con- nection. The first approach demands an understanding of Nepal’s weather condi- tions, geographical limitations, cultural factors and types of construction. Using all these aspects as a premise, the project was developed consider- ing the challenges inherent to building in the mountains. A solution presented is to first transport all building components to the site by helicop- ter so as to begin construction in situ. The main material to be used for internal cladding, structure and furniture is wood, combined with stone and sand for the strip foundation beam together with crossed wooden stilts and metal for the external cladding. For the thermal insulation, the use of foam boards is proposed due to its great performance and very light weight. Finally, triple glass with a metallic structure is suggested for the windows so as to prevent extreme weather conditions from being felt indoors . Conceptually, the shelter combines the importance of the square in the pagoda’s plan - one of the most traditional structures in Nepal’s history - with a village typology that presents itself as pitched roof cottages placed along the central square, so creating a courtyard that is an open air living for when the weather is pleasant. 20

Type: Thesis Project Size: 20.000 m2 Masterplan and 13.000 m2 the building Location: S達o Paulo, Brazil Year: 2013 Status: Academic Purpose

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

The project idea was to choose a building that is part of the collective memory of downtown S達o Paulo, that has no restrictions of transforma- tion to use of object of study. As the program was developed, there was a need to insert different plots around the building to attend the full program and therefore generate a transformation on the street known for being the hub for photographers in S達o Paulo. It has been developed in two stages - urban study to organize the program (previously studied) into the sites - and to discuss the voids in a very consolidated area with a proposals that presents different approaches to the problem of small spaces that are leftover in the middle of strongly urbanized centers. The second stage, a more detailed transformation project of the building. It has 13.000 square meters and has been developed as retail spaces destinated to a bookshop, a public passage the connect two important streets, a school of photography because the area is known for being an photographers hub and social interest dwellings.

Type: 4th year project Size: 10.000 m2 Location: Copenhagen, Denmark Year: 2013 Status: Academic Purpose This project started with the idea of densifying an area of Copenhagen that is very popular and known for its multiculturality. Using the actual surroundings as reference, the concept adopted was to create two long buildinsg that have all the variety encounted at the neighbourhood, together with different materials and textures. Also, it is been proposed an community center and a park, to serve all the area. Both of them have a different material and are though to open the discussion of the transformation of the mass.

Apart from that, concrete baring walls make the separation between the volumes and also create a grafic pattern that repeats the rythyms of the city. The initial unit is very slim and tall, in order to take the best advan- tage of the nordic light.

Type: 2rd year project Size: 1.000 m2 Location: S達o Paulo, Brazil Year: 2011 Status: Academic Purpose The task was to develop a permanent pavillion as an extension of a park in the neighborhood of Liberdade, in S達o Paulo. The concept combines the japanese rice paper and its the fantastic textures and forms possible to achieve, with the traditional japanese plan, that bases all the construction around a central pillar - same word for father - and then places the program around it. The central pilar, in this case, is replaced by the central area formed in between the four different pavillions to create a space that distributes the entrances for the rooms, as well as becames a meeting place.
