With each day, we become more grateful for the opportunity to live, work, recreate and visit within the Qukin ʔamakʔis, the unceded traditional territory of Yaqit ʔa·knuqⱡi’it. This beautiful valley is special to all who spend time here, past, present and future and we are continuing to learn how to better care for and protect these natural spaces that provide for us.

During your time here, you may experience a unique energy… whether immersed in nature, exploring boutique shops and restaurants, spending time with friends and family around a fire, feeling the cold, white powder hit your face, or taking in a cultural event or activity. It’s all around you, as it’s found not only in the landscape but in the people. It’s this perfect balance of individuals who grew up here and are dedicated to continuing to protect and enhance a home they’ve known a lifetime, individuals who happened upon the Kukin ʔamakʔis (Land of the Raven) and knew it was somewhere they needed to be and contribute towards, and the natural landscapes, waterways and animals within this area that bestow on us all a bounty to be respected.

Sukiⱡq̓ukni kinwakiⱡ Kukin ʔamakʔis!

Ktunaxa have called the Elk Valley home for tens of thousands of years, using the area for living, hunting, and fishing, as a path to access buffalo and to get coal to make their fire as they travelled throughout their homelands - Kukin ʔamakʔis, which is Land of the Raven. As you look around you, the forest is very dense and referred to as Ȼaqahak (Fernie).

As you travel throughout these homelands take special note of the unique landscape.
