Automobiles and Airplanes We’re in the late 1920’s and the time of discovering new inventions and innovations has befallen us. American industry is booming helping us to reach greatest of heights, and by that I mean approximately 500 feet. What is that supposed to mean? Yes, planes are now available for purchase for the average everyday American citizen. Why buy yourself your very own airplane you might ask? Have you ever imaged what it would be like to travel 100 miles per hour? Or to see what the world looks like from thousands of feet in the air? This isn’t like 20 years ago when the acclaimed Wright brothers could only fly only a minute long. What contraption could possibly withstand long flights traveling 100 miles per hour, you might ask. Well Charles Lindbergh proved it himself embarking on a 33 hour 30 minute flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Take it from the man Charles Lindbergh himself; “Science, freedom, beauty, adventure: what more could you ask of life?” Now you can discover these wonders for yourself above the clouds. Your neighbors will envy you as you pass over your neighborhood only to see what looks like tiny ants as the people below gaze up at you wondering what the sights are like, as only you can describe. Share these moments with your family on this journey of discovery and wonder. Just make sure your kids don’t brag too much to their friends at school about how amazing of a gift you blessed your family with. As said before, buying a plane for leisure, travel, or whatever you please is easy as pie. With only a payment of two hundred dollars and two monthly payments of one hundred fifty dollars, one of these 2-seater beauties can be yours!

Sacco-Vanzetti Trial 3:00pm, April 15, 1920-Paymaster Frederick Parmenter, and his guard Alessandro Berardelli were murdered at 3pm while carrying a total payroll of $15,776.51 dollars through the main street of South Braintree, Massachusetts. Two men standing by a fence unexpectedly pulled out firearms and opened fire on them. The gunmen ran off with the crates filled with the payroll, and fled the scene eluding their pursuers. Finally three weeks later, the two culprits who opened fire and mortally wounded and murdered this innocent, hardworking men have been caught and are currently being held for a trial which without doubt will pronounce them guilty. Ferdinando Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti; these two Italian anarchist were the masterminds behind this crime. You may ask yourself what makes them different than any other suspect in this case? Well these two gentlemen were BOTH carrying firearms at the time of their arrest. A clear sign that they were keeping them for a way to fend off the local law enforcers and to even commit more crime and murder many more! It does not end their fellow reader for it has been reported that when being questioned they even lied to the authorities! Preposterous! Not only that but Vanzetti already had charges from an earlier hold up attempt that had taken place in December 24, 1919. The day of Christmas Eve! Only a true villain and American hater would attack on such a precious and peaceful day to our grand nation! Even their witnesses whom might I add were all Italian and spoke poor English failed to convince anyone that they were innocent. To add to all this Vanzetti revealed all his radical activities, of course further proving his part in this horrendous crime. Then fiend was tried and convicted to 10 to 15 years in prison for his first crime to add to all of this later to come charges. At last in 1921 these two criminals were tried in one of the biggest trials of this past decade. Six weeks after the trial commence, Judge Webster Thayer, pronounced them guilty. These two men were thrown in jail and their sentence awaited them. After many years of their anarchist and communist comrades failed at proving their innocence, they were condemned to the death penalty and killed in the electric chair on August 27th, 1927.
Women’s Rights The 19th amendment is added to the U.S constitution on August 18, 1920 giving the right for women to vote! Finally after years and years of protesting, our government has at last passed the amendment that allows women to vote in our nation. First drafted by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and introduced in 1878, the 19th amendment was laughed at by many for years as women tried to get this passed. Finally 41 years later it has been approved. After such event was passed new women’s fashions have been up, flappers are becoming more common, they are asking for more things, they are becoming more independent, and they are seen more without the presence of a man. While many of you see this as a bad thing or something that isn’t as important, it is a drastic step towards a better future, providing equality for all who live in our grand nation, making it a better, more enjoyable place to live. Now with our women happy and now ready to work we can improve our nation and do more into becoming more powerful than we already are, standing up against the anarchist and communist opponents on the other side of our world. For the evils of communism must be put to a stop.
Harlem Renaissance
Prohibition Dear Editor The 18th amendment has by far been the worst amendment passed in U.S history. This is an outrage. Banning the sale and manufacture of alcohol? What is the government thinking?! Banning the drink of which nearly every single American citizen including the president drinks! Blasphemy! Not only will the United States lose money from taxes from this product but fighting the crime that is arising from the illegal marketing of it. Those assumptions that alcohol makes the man abuse his woman and children? False! Only the weak and stupid abuse their wife and children! A man knows not to hit his loving wife and children and alcohol does not change a man. Prohibition should NOT be a law and it should be taken away as soon as possible, for I dearly and sincerely disagree with it. Sincerely, Fernando Primo
The Red Scare By: Ajit Benedict “I remember walking outside only to see a bomb go off on my front door” John said on his interview with the local news network. “You’re not the only one” said the interviewer, “Many more houses were hit including the attorney general”. All of a sudden I heard over the radio “breaking news a bomb went off at Wall Street killing 33, and wounding hundreds more.” After that my thoughts about immigrants were completely changed. All started after World War 1 and the Soviet Union was being formed. Many immigrants were coming over trying to spread the idea of communism. I personally don’t want to have communism, but this is the land of the free. I did make a friend who was communist, but he wasn’t one of the people that are forcing others to follow communism. We talked to each other on a daily bases, sharing our ideas of a perfect government system. Fast forward to 1919, bombs are going off in front of people house and panic is spreading. Attorney General Palmer one of the victims of the bombs, decided that it was all because of the communist, and decided to take action. He first started looking for suspected communist, from there without any proof capture these people either put them in jail, and then ship them back, or ship them back immediately. My friend was scared, he wasn’t one of those radicals, and he was just an ordinary guy trying to make a living. They toke him not long after Palmer started his retaliation. The way he looked still haunts me to this day. Why did they take him, I agreed with taken out the radicals, but why people like him. He wasn’t one of them, he came here to live freely, but they toke it from him. Just when I couldn’t get any worse in 1921 a year after they toke him, they passed the Johnston’s Act which limited immigration to 3% of the total population from that country living in America. Then 3 years after in 1924 the passed the National Origins Act which limited immigration to 2% of the total population from that country living in America. From then on I tried to live without thinking about my friend, but it won’t leave my head. Most of the population hated immigrants, and I agreed with most of it. I didn’t agree with not letting people who have done anything wrong come in. Over all I don’t agree with this whole red scare, yes people were killed, by radicals, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to get punished.
Labor Unions By: Ajit Benedict Dear Editor Labor Unions are abusing their power, and starting strikes all over. Once one company strikes, it cause another to lose money, and after that another starts. Yes it is good that they are getting together to discuss problems, but once the start a strike they should think about what the losses will be. Ever think about what would happen if the teachers went on strike, kids would have nowhere to go to, and parents have to stay back to take care of them, which cause their jobs to lose money cause no one is at work. So next time a strike happens the government should step in to stop it by either giving them what they want, or somewhere in between.
Scopes Trail By: Ajit Benedict Dear Editor The scopes trail has really opened my eyes to a conflict that has been going on for a while. Darrow and Bryan were really going at it, but towards the end Bryan was losing cause Darrow managed to trick Bryan. I myself am a Catholic, but I am beginning to lose faith after the way Bryan tried to defend religion. Why would anyone chose Bryan to defend religion, he lost three times when he tried to run for president, I could have been a better religion expert. Anyway Scopes was still convicted, of teaching evolution when it was illegal. This trail has brought to the eyes of many of evolution vs religion, and will be debated in the coming future and maybe even after until a solution is reached.
