Welcome to Adelaide Cabaret Festival – our first festival since the unveiling of Festival Plaza and the opening-up of Adelaide Riverbank in 2022. We’re delighted to have Tina Arena at the helm this year and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store. Last year’s festival took home the silver medal at the South Australian Tourism Awards so we know how important it is for our community. As a winter festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival is a seat at the fireside, warming our collective spirits. This magic is possible thanks to an incredible team of administrative, production, operational, design, and customer-facing staff. I thank them all. I also thank our enthusiastic audiences and talented artists for bringing sparkle and energy to Adelaide Festival Centre each June. We are grateful to the Government of South Australia and our sponsors for their ongoing and generous support. We’ll see you all around the fire this June. Douglas Gautier AM CEO & Artistic Director Adelaide Festival Centre
After another tumultuous year, more than ever, this beloved winter festival feels like a beacon of light and a long-awaited escape. Tina Arena has always been such a beacon for me – as she is for so many. That iconic voice is instantly recogniseable and so embedded in the soundtrack of our lives. It never fails to transcend and to make us feel and connect deeply. How exciting it is to see Tina extend this artistry beyond the stage. It is embodied in this Adelaide Cabaret Festival program, celebrating stories and story tellers, places and spaces and the touchstones and milestones that reflect upon our shared heritage and cultural connection in modern Australia. It’s a jam packed three weekends and, although we have stayed close to home and homegrown talent, there are so many worlds to explore: from 1960s Manhattan to Rwanda and Malawi; from 1930s King Cross to a Victorian era Funhouse; and The Piña Colada Room, our take on the ultimate disco era after party. Wherever you find yourself, you’re welcome. Alex Sinclair Executive Producer Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Welcome to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. I am honoured to serve as your Artistic Director for 2022. What a blessing it has been to curate for you a musical feast for the senses. It is with great humility that I step into the shoes of my predecessor, the incomparable powerhouse, Alan Cumming. Alan is an artist’s artist, for whom I have a tremendous amount of respect and with whom I share a special cabaret connection. You see, we both starred in Cabaret the musical. Alan: in his award-winning Broadway role as Emcee and me, as the irrepressible fraulein Sally Bowles in the Australian production. Cabaret is in our blood – and it is a serendipitous bond. I’ve always loved cabaret – long before my role as Sally Bowles. Cabaret is a beautifully eclectic art form. It is a magical fusion of stories, songs, dance, and all things theatrical. Cabaret is escapism of the most fabulous kind. And boy, couldn’t we all use a little bit of escapism after the year that’s been? I truly believe in the healing power of music and art in all its forms. Art helps us to feel, to identify and process emotion. It inspires us to reflect and move forward with grace. Art saves. Art heals. It is my sincere hope that this year’s festival takes you on a journey of much-needed connection and healing. From the personal stories of Songs My Mother Taught Me to the decadence of The Piña Colada Room – leave your worries behind and let the music save you, just as it continues to save me. With love, Tina Arena AM
