Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia’s most respected musicians with a professional career spanning five decades. His unique style is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a band for melody, rhythm, bass and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – and more – on one guitar. Tommy’s message is pure love for the guitar, the music and his delight in sharing it with the world, one audience at a time.

Frank Vignola is widely regarded as a monster player and composer, and has played with everyone from Les Paul and Madonna through to Donald Fagen and the Boston Pops. This will be Frank’s first visit to Australia from New York.

The Yearlings Venturing where no string band has gone before

San Francisco Chronicle

“In their willingness to subvert pop melodies with startling dissonance and rhythmic jolts, they’re like an acoustic Radiohead.” San Francisco Chronicle

10 August

“... totally mind-blowing.”

The Yearlings Adelaide’s alt-country balladeers straddle old and new, bitter and sweet. Their songs rock sad and slow, like a chair on an old wooden porch.

Direct from a sold-out US tour, New York’s charismatic Punch Brothers make their Australian music festival debut at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. Virtuosity is a given among these already prodigious players. Together they have built on their bluegrass roots to create a sound that breaks through the wall of folk, jazz, indie rock and classical music. The result is a hard charged, pioneering sound, laced with poignant lyricism and humour. With two tracks featured on the soundtrack for the hit film The Hunger Games and a critically acclaimed new album Who’s Feeling Young Now? just released, Punch Brothers are at the frontier of an emerging form of progressive string-band music.

Based on the sorrowful poems of Willhelm Müller, Schubert’s Winterreise, is one of the world’s most cherished song cycles. In a unique arrangement for guitars and voice, a selection from the cycle will be tenderly played by accomplished duo Oliver Fartach-Naini and Lee Song-Ou joined by acclaimed lyric coloratura tenor Henry Choo.

Cary Lewincamp’s intimate and seemingly timeless music has been dubbed ‘the sound of Tasmanian life’. With jazz, celtic folk, latin, and classical styles interwoven, its deeply evocative quality has seen Lewincamp become one of Australia’s best selling independent recording artists.

Acclaimed composer, revered scholar and masterful guitarist Paulo Bellinati brings his distinctive sound to Australia for the first time. Famed for compositions which reinvent traditional rhythms, Bellinati and his fellow countryman Weber Lopes strike a perfect balance between the sophistication of classical music and the spontaneity of popular forms. Performing music from their collaboration Virado, they traverse the range of musical influences that converge in the Brazilian cultural melting pot resulting in a new and rich contemporary repertoire.
