Lost in Translation: Transnational American Rock and its Map of Misreading in China Professor Teng Jimeng

An exploration into China’s popular culture through the lens of the politicised rock music movements. What are the relations between power and culture? How has the process of globalisation impacted and defined music movements in China? The relationship between music, society, government and industry reveals pivotal moments in the history of nations. Professor Teng Jimeng explores the history of these relations and their impact on the contemporary cultural landscape.

30 SEP BANQUET ROOM FREE 6pm (Fri) Duration 1hr

As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia has historically been a key maritime hub for trade and cultural exchange. How does contemporary culture embrace this history and the national ethos of “Unity in Diversity” with a vision towards decentralisation in the world’s fourth largest country by population? What are the intersections between slow tourism, diverse arts and culture and the movement of people across the archipelago in one of the fastest growing economies in the world?
