Memorial Written like Homer’s poem to be spoken aloud, Oswald’s universally lauded Memorial strips the narrative from the Iliad and concentrates on personalising the deaths of the two hundred and fifteen soldiers named in the epic. Chris Drummond of Adelaide’s Brink Productions has, over the past four years, earned both the trust of the poet and her exclusive collaboration in this international theatrical adaptation on a gigantic scale. One of the leading actresses of her generation, Helen Morse brings her decades of experience in theatre and recitals to the transforming poetry of Alice Oswald’s Memorial, and performs the superb dramatic text with a new score by Golden Globe nominated UK composer Jocelyn Pook for a live ensemble of international singers and musicians. On a magnificent set designed by Michael Hankin and lit by Nigel Levings, Circa’s Yaron Lifschitz will create haunting physical shapes with performers drawn from the Adelaide community. State Theatre Company South Australia by arrangement with Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd on behalf of Dramatists Play Service, Inc. presents
Sense and Sensibility By Kate Hamill, based on the novel by Jane Austen Kate Hamill’s sparkling adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is Jane Austen on theatrical steroids. In the hands of the State Theatre Company ensemble it will be a night at the theatre that you won’t want to miss. The newly widowed Mrs Dashwood, under much reduced circumstances, must move herself and her three daughters, the very sensible Elinor, the wild romantic Marianne and the spirited Margaret, from their grand family home to a modest cottage. But reduced social circumstances do not lead to a reduction in troubles of the heart. Suitors circle and gossip swirls as all of the Dashwoods try to find their place in the world. Jane Austen’s masterpiece is a precision guided literary missile of wit and warmth. In playwright Kate Hamill she’s found her theatrical match as verve and invention is brought to bear on the Dashwood’s every move. “Kate Hamill’s marvelous play is one of the finest stage adaptations of a literary classic. Our Jane would have expressed her approval” TheaterScene.net

Her Majesty’s Theatre Renewal Treasuring the past, building for the future When Her Majesty's Theatre opened in 1913 it sat 2170 patrons and was acclaimed as the finest theatre in Australia. It is the last remaining operating Tivoli theatre and is in desperate need of renovation. Remodelled in the 1970s, Her Majesty's Theatre now seats only 970 and has lost much of its grandeur and commercial appeal. This is all about to change but we need your help. The Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation has committed to raising $5 million over the next three years to ensure completion of this vital and exciting upgrade.

• Increased seating capacity from 970 to almost 1,500 seats • A more attractive venue for large-scale musical productions • New foyers with contemporary food and beverage outlets and function spaces • Improved disability access and facilities • Activation of the Central Market and Chinatown area with cultural and entertainment connections from Adelaide Oval through to Gouger Street To make a tax deductible donation visit hermajestystheatre.org.au or contact Robyn Brown, Manager Philanthropy (08) 8216 8826 foundation@adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au
