The English Department

The English department is a vibrant, thriving department, and a love of reading and poetry is evident throughout the school. The successful candidate will be expected to continue the excellent work of the department, and develop new initiatives throughout the school.

English is taught by class teachers in M, P and S Forms (ages 7,8 & 9) and by specialist English teachers from T to 2nd Form (ages 10, 11 & 12).

The successful candidate will oversee the English teaching throughout Fettes College Preparatory School and coordinate the medium and longer term plans of the department to ensure consistency and coherence throughout the school. The English department aims for all students to show confidence and flair in all aspects of English, and to apply their skills in a variety of subjects and mediums.

The Head of Department has independence over the structure of the learning but the English and Welsh national curriculum is broadly followed. The Department is very successful and the pupils leave the Preparatory School well prepared for their further academic studies, wherever that may lead them.

The Director of Studies, Brendan Eagar (B.Eagar@fettes.com) will be happy to discuss any aspects of the position with interested candidates before a formal application is made.
