TIP: Don’t Draft a Fantasy Defense!
Usually, the top scoring defense is undrafted from that current year. Last year, the best scoring dream defense was the San Francisco 49ers (undrafted in 2011) with 177 fantasy points. The Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens as well as Seattle Seahawks were the following three best fantasy defenses that were drafted seventh, sixth, and undrafted respectively.
The second reason why you need to wait is because the distinction between points notched by a defense is negligible. The Chicago Bears (second-best defense) just averaged two more fantasy points per week than the New York Planes and Cincinnati Bengals (11th as well as 12th best defense). Even if you cannot anticipate that will definitely be just one of the best defenses, you shouldn't squander a selection in the ninth or 10th round, because, in the long run, the defense's contribution to fabtasy points is insignificant when compared to one another.
Neither defense finished in the Top 5, as well as the Steelers were 3 fantasy points away from being the 12th-best defense and were barely startable. Instead of drafting a defense in the eighth round, you could have selected Jordy Nelson, Steve Smith, Eli Manning, A.J. Green or Rob Gronkowski!
Ten years back, there were six defenses drafted in or before the 10th round, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being drafted in the sixth round. In 2006, the fad started to typically head in the appropriate direction. Even more defenses were being selected later on, yet the initial few were still off the board way too early. In 2009, it became better still with the first defense being prepared in the eighth round and also even less drafted before the 15th round. As far as drafts are revealing so far, the 1st defense (San Francisco 49ers) is being prepared in the 10th round this year. The better news is that the next defense will not be off the board till the 14th round!
The bottom line is that a defense (and a kicker for that matter) need to not be drafted before the last round, if at all.. Take your chances on a newbie or draft the handcuff to your beginning running back. There will always be a defense to scoop up at the end or on waivers, as well as half the time it will surpass your opponent's defense anyhow. Playing the defensive matchups is

a simple way to dominate your fantasy football league and your opponents may not even notice what you are up to!
