TRENDING TODAY AT #FGCU • Kentucky represents the 3rd Power 5 opponent on FGCU’s schedule this year. The Eagles upended Illinois 85-61 in the season opener before falling to #8 Ohio State in the Play4Kay Showcase in Las Vegas on Nov. 24. • Taylor Gradinjan became just the 10th player in program history with 1,000 career points in the win over Southeastern. She will be honored before today’s game for the accomplishment. Only the 9th player to reach the milestone in the Division-I era, Gradinjan needs just seven points to pass Courtney Chihill (2008-12, 1,016) for the 8th most points in the Division-I era. • This is the first-ever matchup between these two teams.

SENIOR STEPH HAAS HAS AVERAGED 12 POINTS PER GAME IN FIVE WNIT CONTESTS AND SET A NEW SEASON HIGH ON TWO OCCASIONS

GAME 11 TAY-GRAD REACHES 1,000 POINTS

750/500

With an offensive rebound and a layup late in the first half on Tuesday against Southeastern, sixth-year senior Taylor Gradinjan became just the 10th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. She is only the ninth player to do so in the Division-I era.

China Dow, a redshirt senior who transferred from Middle Tennessee State following the 2014-15 season, eclipsed 750 career points in her NCAA career on Tuesday. Rosemarie Julien, meanwhile, eclipsed 500 points in an FGCU uniform in the win over Southeastern. She transferred to the Eagles from Chipola College prior to last season.

With 1,010 points, Gradinjan is now seven away from passing Courtney Chihill (1,016, 2008-12) for the eighth most points in the Division-I era. Prior to Friday’s game, she will be recognized for her achievement. Gradinjan is currently averaging 11.6 points over 10 games this year. Prior to finishing with 11 points on Tuesday, she poured in a season-high 18 points in the team’s 94-55 win over Abilene Christian on the road Sunday. In that game, she matched a career-high with six 3-pointers on 60 percent shooting from long range. She has tallied 10 or more points in seven games this year, and 32 of her 38 field goals have come from long range. On top of that, she is shooting a career-best .427 from 3-point range. In her career, which included five games in 2012-13 before back-to-back season-ending injuries, she has tallied 47 double-digit scoring games.

ULEL RAINING THREES Sophomore guard Nasrin Ulel currently leads the ASUN and is sixth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at .529. She has at least 17 points in 5 of 10 games for the Eagles this year.

SCOUTING KENTUCKY Kentucky is led by Matthew Mitchell, who is the program’s all-time winningest coach and in his 11th season. In the team’s most recent game, a 100-62 win over Evansville, the Wildcats opened the game on a 19-0 run and never trailed. They scored 35 points in the first quarter, which was the most in any single quarter by Kentucky since moving to the four-quarter format, and they had new season highs in points in the paint (60) and blocks (10). Maci Morris, who is the team’s leading scorer at 16.7 PPG, recorded 20 points in the win over Evansville. It was her third game this year with at least that many, and she is the only player on the team who has scored in double digits in every game this year. Freshman center Tatyana Wyatt, who has averaged 12.0 PPG over four games played, had 20 points and 10 rebounds against Evansville. Alyssa Rice (14), who averages 9.0 PPG and a team-high 7.3 RPG, and Jaida Roper (10), who averages 8.6 PPG and 3.4 APG, each also scored in double figures. Roper has at least 10 points in five games this year, and she’s led the team in assists five times.

AUSTRIAN WEAPON In addition to returning 1,737 points from last year’s team, FGCU head coach Karl Smesko has added Vienna, Austria native Lisa Zderadicka to the roster. The 5-6 guard led Houston Baptist with 11 points per game last year (276 total points). Thus, with her addition, the Eagles have over 2,000 NCAA Division I points from last year available. In addition to her scoring, Zderadicka averaged 4.5 rebounds last year, which was second on the team at Houston Baptist and would have tied China Dow for second on the FGCU roster last year behind Tytionia Adderly.

NEXT UP IN THE NEST On top of Zderadicka, FGCU added three transfers who will sit out this year due to NCAA Division I transfer rules who either led their school in scoring or finished in the top three last year. Davion Wingate tied for the team-high in scoring at 11.8 PPG for Stony Brook; Keri Jewett-Giles tallied 9.0 PPG for Southern Miss; and Kerstie Phills poured in a team-high 13.1 PPG for Wagner en route to NEC Rookie of the Year recognition. Kerstie is the daughter of the late Bobby Phills, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets.

UPPERCLASSMEN PRESENCE Among eligible players, this year’s roster features six upperclassmen, including five seniors and one junior. Taylor Gradinjan is the elder statesman on the team with this being her sixth year following two ACL tears to start her career. Jessica Cattani and China Dow are both fifth-year seniors, while Erica Nelson and Rose Julien are in their second season at FGCU following two years at Johnson County CC and Chipola College, respectively, and each player won an NJCAA national title. Lisa Zderadicka, who is a graduate transfer from Houston Baptist, is a fourth-year junior.

of which made the NCAA Tournament last year. The team also finished 4th in the Play4Kay Showcase in Las Vegas Nov. 23-25.

CONSISTENT SUCCESS FGCU is just one of six programs at the NCAA Division I level to win 25 or more games in each season since 2010-11. The others include: UConn, Baylor, Notre Dame, Stanford and James Madison. Only 10 schools have at least 25 wins in each of the past four seasons.

OVERTIME HISTORY FGCU is now 7-6 all-time in the NCAA Division-I era in overtime games following the 89-84 win over No. 21 DePaul on Nov. 23. Three of those games have come against Stetson, and the Eagles hold a 2-1 record in those. DATE
