• Marist opened the season with a 75-72 loss at Bucknell on Nov. 14 before having eight days off and commencing its home schedule versus Army Saturday night where it fell, 76-62. • The Red Foxes went 12-19 in 2013-14, including a 9-11 mark in MAAC action.
#NestProtected 33-3 FGCU is 33-3 at Alico Arena since the start of the 2012-13 season. The three losses have come to Lipscomb, Iona and Mercer, snapping – respectively – a nine-game home-court winning streak, another nine-game streak and a 12-game stretch. FGCU is 3-0 this year and went 15-2 last year and 15-1 in 2012-13.
• Mike Maker is in his first season as the head coach of Marist after spending the previous six seasons as the head coach of D-III Williams College. • Marist was picked to finish 8th in the 11-team MAAC, with Chavaughn Lewis and Khallid Hart both being named to the Preseason All-Conference Second Team. FGCU will be playing at Germain Arena for the first time since the program’s first two games were held at what was then known as Teco Arena in the 2002-03 season. Not knowing if Alico Arena would be ready in time, officials scheduled the Hillmyer-Tremont Tipoff Classic to be played at Germain (Teco) Arena. FGCU’s first-ever game was a 98-90 loss to Puerto Rico-Bayaman on Nov. 22, 2002, before bouncing back with a 77-62 win over Concordia the next day. FGCU will be competing in its first in-season bracket-style tournament since 2012-13 when the Eagles hosted a four-team tournament which was part of the Battle 4 Atlantis. FGCU defeated Alcorn State, 50-48, and Toledo, 72-66, to punch its ticket to the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

FGCU led the Atlantic Sun Conference in defense last year, allowing opponents to score just 66.8 points per game. The Atlantic Sun Conference has been the talk of the college basketball world the last two postseasons as FGCU and Mercer (now a Southern Conference member) have both been responsible for three major upsets in the NCAA Tournament, affectionately turning the A-Sun into the A-Stun.

FGCU is the only school in the Atlantic Sun Conference which has won an A-Sun Men’s Basketball Championship. Conference re-alignment has drastically altered the landscape of collegiate athletics, and the A-Sun is no different. The Eagles joined the league in 2007-08 with USC Upstate, and prior to that North Florida and Kennesaw State both joined for the 2005-06 season. Lipscomb has been a member since 2003-04, Jacksonville since 1998-99 and Stetson since 1986-87. Northern Kentucky is in its third year in the A-Sun after joining in 2012-13 and has two years (including this season) of its NCAAmandated Division-I reclassification period remaining.

Dating back to the 2011-12 season, FGCU has won 26 consecutive games when outscoring its opponents in the paint by at least 15 points. FGCU won two such games in 2011-12, with the last loss coming on Nov. 25, 2011, at Maryland (73-67) despite the Eagles out-scoring the then-ACC member in the paint by 16 points, 42-26.

• FGCU has won a combined 40 conference regular season and tournament titles IN JUST 7+ YEARS in Division I as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference & Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association. • In just 3+ YEARS of Division-I postseason eligibility, FGCU has sent 10 TEAMS to the NCAA Tournament, while men’s golf (2012, 2013), women’s swimming (2012, 2013, 2014) and men’s tennis (2014) have had an individual participate in their respective NCAA Championship, bringing THE TOTAL NCAA APPEARANCES FOR FGCU TO 16. • FGCU WON 2013-14 REGULAR-SEASON A-SUN CHAMPIONSHIPS in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball, with women’s basketball claiming its second A-Sun Tournament title. • In 2013-14, FGCU BECAME THE FIRST A-Sun school since ETSU in 2008-09 to win five regular-season championships in a single year. • Additionally in 2013-14, swimmers Emma Svensson and Kira Toussaint both helped FGCU FINISH 32ND IN THE NATION after competing at the NCAA Championship. Men’s tennis junior Jordi Vives represented FGCU at the NCAA Championship for the FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY, winning his first match and reaching the Round of 32. • FGCU’s student-athletes achieved a higher GPA (3.24) than the overall student body in Spring of 2014 for the 11th straight semester. • Backed by four A-Sun regular-season crowns and four more teams that finished in the top 3 of the conference standings, FGCU SWEPT all three of the A-SUN ALL-SPORT races in 2012-13. • After becoming the first team into the NCAA field of 68 by winning the A-Sun Tournament in 2013, the FGCU men’s basketball team became the FIRST NO. 15 SEED IN NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY to advance to the SWEET SIXTEEN. Dunk City became the Cinderella of the 2013 dance, as the high-flying Eagles defeated No. 2 seed Georgetown and No. 7 seed San Diego State. • For the second-straight year in 2012, FGCU was the ONLY D-I school to win its conference regular season and postseason tournament in both men’s and women’s soccer.
