Seven of Chase Fieler’s 10 career double-figure rebounding performances have come this year, including five in the last nine games.
He’s back In PERFECT Flight Prior to this year, FGCU had never had a player make at least five shots in a game without a miss in program history. However, Eric McKnight – who has only played in the last nine games – has done that on two separate occasions already. Against Stetson on Jan. 5 he went 7-7 from the field, and then opposite ETSU last Saturday he went 5-5. McKnight was suspended for the first 12 games of the year for a violation of team rules.

Last year, 10 of FGCU’s 11 losses came away from Alico Arena, and so far this season only one of the Eagles’ losses have occurred inside the friendly confines of The Nest. Dating back to last year, FGCU has won 14 of its past 15 home games, and boasts a 23-2 record at Alico Arena since the start of the 2012-13 campaign. (Losses: Lipscomb, Iona).

Looking further into the Eagles’ home-court advantage, FGCU’s first non-conference loss at Alico since the 2010-11 season took place Dec. 1 against Iona, breaking a stretch of 15 straight wins at home. The Green and Blue went 5-0 in 2011-12, 7-0 in 2012-13 and 4-1 this year.

FGCU is better in every single key statistical category at home than on the road, with the exception of free-throw percentage (66 percent to 65.3 percent). The Eagles have better averages/percentages in points, field goals, 3-point field goals, free throws, rebounds, assists, turnovers, steals and blocks in Alico Arena than in away games. Furthermore, in FGCU’s first three road games, both Chase Fieler and Nate Hicks got into early foul trouble as each starter picked up two fouls in each game after just eight minutes of action. NATIONAL EXPOSURE FGCU had 10 regular-season games in 2013-14 slated to appear on national or regional television until last Saturday’s contest against ETSU was moved from local CBS affiliate WINK to ESPN3 to make that number nine. Prior to this year, the Eagles only had three such games – and only one on national TV – in their six previous seasons as a Division-I member. Additionally, for the first time ever, all remaining home games not on TV will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. FGCU has already been showcased on TV seven times this season either nationally or regionally. The Eagles have played on the Big Ten Network, ESPN2, Fox Sports 1, ESPNU and CSS (three times) so far this year, with four of those being shown nationally.

FGCU ATHLETICS DID YOU KNOW?
• FGCU has won a combined 32 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 6+ years in Division I as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference & Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association. • In just 2+ years of Division I postseason eligibility, FGCU has sent 7 teams to the NCAA Tournament, while men’s golf and women’s
swimming have had an individual participate in their respective NCAA Championship each year. • Backed by four Atlantic Sun regular season crowns and four more teams that finished in the top 3 of the conference standings, FGCU swept all three of the a-sun all-sport races in 2012-13. The four A-Sun regular season titles were tied for a league-high, while the Eagles are just the second A-Sun member to sweep the three All-Sport races. • After becoming the first team into the NCAA field of 68 by winning the A-Sun Tournament, the FGCU men’s basketball team became the first no. 15 seed in nCaa tournament history to advance to the sweet 16. The Eagles became the Cinderella of the 2013 dance, as they defeated No. 2 seed Georgetown and No. 7 seed San Diego State. The team’s up-tempo style and refreshing charisma resulted in Fort Myers being called “Dunk City.” A
O
• FGCU women’s basketball was just the second A-Sun team to produce a perfect conference regular season in 2011-12, going 18-0, but it became the first to do so in back-to-back seasons with its second straight 18-0 mark in 2012-13. The Eagles A-Sun regular season crown was their third in the last six years. • FGCU’s 53 combined wins in men’s and women’s basketball in 2012-13 was the 9th-best total in the nation, while it joined Duke, Louisville and Gonzaga as the only schools with at least 26 wins in both. • In the fall of 2012, FGCU swept the A-Sun team sports regular season, taking home the men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball crowns. For the second straight year, FGCU was the only Division I school to win its conference regular season and postseason tournament in both men’s and women’s soccer. • FGCU’s student-athletes achieved a record 3.31 Cumulative Gpa in the Spring of 2013 semester.

Just missed his second double-double, and first against a D-I opponent, with 10 points and eight rebounds against ETSU (Jan. 18). Set a D-I program record and tied the all-time program record with 19 rebounds - all defensive - while rejecting five shots but did not score at USF (Dec. 17). His first six games with a block were multi-rejection contests: 2/2/8/2/4/5. Recorded his first career double-double with a career-high-tying 12 points and thencareer-best 11 rebounds against Ave Maria (Nov. 23). Was one rebound and two blocks shy of the program’s first triple-double versus Eckerd (Nov. 18) as he had a career high in points (12) and blocks (8), with the eight 2013-14 program #DunkCity Basketball rejections setting the single-game record. FGCU Tech) Individual Game-by-Game (as of Jan 24, 2014) (2011-12 at Georgia All-ACC Named to the Academic team (Management All games major) ... saw time in 23 games, missing six games late in the season recovering from mono.
