TOURNAMENT OF HOPE ALL-TIME MEETINGS WITH THE FIELD The Eagles will face three brand-new opponents this week in Mexico. The Green and Blue have won 99 games against opponents in first meetings since 2002 with just 31 losses in introductary meetings.

LET’S RECAP In a back-and-forth battle at the Reed Green Coliseum, FGCU fell to the University of Southern Mississippi, 7674 Saturday night. The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Golden Eagles and moved to 3-1 on the year, while USM improved to 4-1. After trailing by seven points early in the contest, FGCU gained composure and took control of the game. The Eagles held a 42-31 lead at halftime and amplified the advantage to 17 points but saw as the home team increased the defensive pressure and held FGCU to zero field goals over a span of eight minutes. USM fought through the end of the match and reclaimed the lead in the final minute to take the win. Hansen led the Eagles with 24 points, while Haas added a career-high 20 points in the loss.

9.8 3-pointers per game since 2007-08 3-point percentage since 2008-09 36.4% RANKED AS A ROOKIE:

As a freshman in the 2012-13 season, Jaime Gluesing led the Atlantic Sun with a 3-point percentage of .450 in 34 games. Gluesing’s impressive mark ranks 7th in the A-Sun All-Time Record Book.

SENIOR CLASS AWARD: Senior standout Sarah Hansen has been recognized as one of the nation’s top student-athletes and as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Eagles’ offensive ability is evident in their style of play, but the team has also led the A-Sun in defense in each of the last four years. FGCU has held foes to an average of just 55.3 points per game in that span.

Sixty NCAA men’s and women’s basketball studentathletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as candidates. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

NONCONFERENCE COMPETITION:

SIMPLY THE BEST:

The Green & Blue will take on 12 teams from 10 different conferences during nonconference action this season. Here’s the breakdown.

In three-consecutive seasons the Eagles have set three separate 3-point records.

•350 made 3-pointers

•342 made 3-pointers

(A-Sun Season Record | 2010-11) (NCAA Season Record | 2012-13)

•22 made 3-pointers

(NCAA Game Record | Jan. 12, 2013)

The 350 made shots in 2010-11 did not count as a NCAA record due to the Eagles’ transition to DI.

HANSEN’S HEROICS: Senior Sarah Hansen already holds four all-time program records and is on pace to set 13 more. Track her progress through each game here. Against Bethune-Cookman, Hansen grabbed 10 rebounds before setting the steals record at Southern Miss.

HOT STREAK: With 36 straight Atlantic Sun regular season wins, the Eagles hold the second-best conference win streak in the nation. They sit behind only Baylor.

SHE DOESN’T QUIT: Sarah Hansen’s accolades and milestones keep adding up. The senior currently ranks 27th among alltime Atlantic Sun players. She sits 16 points behind the 26th position and 332 points out of the top-10.

ALICO ARENA Since opening its doors in December 2002, Alico Arena has served as the centerpiece of FGCU athletics. In addition to the 4,500 seat basketball and volleyball facility, the arena houses Athletic Department staff offices, 12 locker rooms, a full suite of luxury boxes, a hospitality suite, the Human Performance Athletic Training Center, a fitness center and an auxiliary gym.

FAMILIAR FACES:

EAGLES AT ALICO

Of 12 nonconference teams on the schedule, the Eagles faced three teams during the 2012-13 season. Those contests resulted in a record of 2-1.

• 165-12 in home games • 163-12 in games at Alico Arena • 87-6 in Division I games at Alico Arena • 54-1 in Atlantic Sun games at Alico Arena

•69-45 win over FIU •79-60 loss to Charlotte •76-70 win over LSU

TIME’S TICKING: 2013-14 marks the first season in which a 10-second back court clock will be instituted in NCAA women’s basketball.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK: In 11 seasons, the Eagles have scored 100 points or more on 10 occasions. Since transitioning to Division I, the team has hit the mark three times.

ALICO FAST FACTS • The Eagles compiled a streak of 42 home wins between 2008 and 2011. The streak was the third longest streak in the nation behind perennial powerhouses UConn and Stanford. The run ended in a 2011 WNIT game against Florida • FGCU has not fallen in an Atlantic Sun game at Alico Arena since Jan. 8, 2009. That’s 45 straight A-Sun wins at home. • The Green & Blue are looking to start a new run at home. FGCU fell to Winthrop in last year’s WNIT and will create a new streak with their first win at home this season.
