With a new emphasis on hand check rules, there is a common perception this season that there are more fouls called and in turn more free-throws awarded. However, since the transition to Division I in 2007, the Eagles have averaged 18.15 free throw attempts per game, and this season they have gone to the charity stripe an average of 20 times per game. The number of free throws made and attempted each year has fluctuated. Here we see that this year the number is not out of line with past seasons.
hot streak With 44 straight Atlantic Sun regular season wins, the Eagles held the nation’s best conference win streak in conference action but saw the streak snapped at NKU last weekend.
SIMPLY THE BEST In three-consecutive seasons the Eagles have set three separate 3-point records.
•350 made 3-pointers
•342 made 3-pointers
(A-Sun Season Record | 2010-11) (NCAA Season Record | 2012-13)
•22 made 3-pointers
(NCAA Game Record | Jan. 12, 2013)
The 350 made shots in 2010-11 did not count as a NCAA record due to the Eagles’ transition to DI.
nearing the top
stiff competition The Eagles saw a slate of tough competition through nonconference action this season • Two ESPN Top-25 teams #4/4 Stanford, #13/13 LSU • Six teams from last year’s NCAA Tournament Stanford, SDSU, USF, LSU, Saint Joseph’s, Stetson
Sarah Hansen’s accolades and milestones keep adding up. The senior currently ranks 12th among all-time Atlantic Sun players with 1,730 points. She sits 82 points out of the top-10. Hansen also ranks 23rd in all-time rebounds at 792 boards.

UP NEXT: MERCER • The Bears of Mercer are 11-10 this season with a 4-6 Atlantic Sun record. The record includes a loss to FGCU in January. • As a team, the Bears are averaging 63.3 points per game this season, while allowing opponents to 64.6 points per contest. The Bears have successfully converted 39.6 percent of shots from the field and 25.3 percent of shots from long range. Bear foes are shooting 38.8 percent this season with a 32.1 percent clip from beyond-the-arc. The Bears average just 12.1 turnovers per game, while dishing out 13.8 assists and grabbing 5.6 steals. • The Bears boast a versatile lineup with six players to watch this season. Offensively, the team is led by two Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team members in junior guards Precious Bridges and Brianna Williams. Bridges has averaged a team-high 16.2 points per games this season and has grabbed 23 steals but did not see the court against FGCU in the teams’ first meeting. Williams adds 12.9 points per game and currently leads the conference in career 20+ point games. Sharnea Boykin has facilitated the offense this season with 142 assists and ranks ninth in the nation in assists per game. Defensively, Teanna Robinson currently ranks third in the nation with 3.71 blocks per game and pulls down 10 rebounds per game. - The Bears earned the no. 3 seed in last season’s Atlantic Sun Conference tournament after finishing the season with a record of 20-12 overall and 13-5 in conference. The team fell to Stetson in the semifinal but went on to play in the Women’s Basketball Invitational. This season, the Bears were selected to finish third in the conference preseason poll, behind just FGCU and Stetson.

Five active NCAA Division I coaches currently hold win percentages of over .800. Smesko joins Geno Auriemma (UConn), Kim Mulkey (Baylor), Tara VanDerveer (Stanford) & Matt Bollant (Illinois) in the elite group.
