With the passing of the centennial anniversary of WWI and the current strife in Eastern Europe, a thoughtful understanding of this most destructive event in world history is certainly appropriate. Beginning with the major figures in Europe and the events leading up to the war, this course will explain the causes, events and results of the “war to end all wars.” These lectures will center on the alliances that brought Europe into the most destructive war up to that time. Also discussed will be the military fronts, new weapons used for the first time and major battles of the war. No understanding of this war can be complete without knowledge of its ending with the Treaty of Versailles and its terrible legacy.
