Valerie Wood’s research focuses on the history of Chinese adoption to Canada and examines the unique migration journey Chinese adoptees face and the multiple racial and cultural identities they hold. Wood is writing a children’s book Vee in Between, illustrated by Cailin Doherty, with an accompanying essay that will delve deeper into themes in the book, such as Chinese transnational adoption, diaspora and immigration as well as evaluating the effectiveness of using children’s literature as a public history tool.
