INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES 2015 - 2016 EINDHOVEN - FULLTIME
FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE
Veronika Salygina , Student International Business and Management Studies ‘Together with my boyfriend I decided to leave Lithuania and travel around the world. First stop: Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Here, I decided to study International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) at Fontys and he chose to study at the Technical University. What I like about IBMS is the type of subjects taught and the international focus – I have always had an interest for Economics and Business. I enjoy visiting the library to read various management books. After studying IBMS my ambition is to work for a bank as a product or risk manager. But I am not just focussing on this. I also dream about setting up a company in the fashion industry.
national team! This way I learn the ‘Dutch way’ and the language. Since my family doesn’t live in Lithuania anymore my bond with my country of birth has somewhat disappeared. Ultimately I want to live in a country where I feel at home and where I have a challenging job. This might just as well be The Netherlands!’
I must say that I like living in The Netherlands. The culture and its people appeal to me. At this moment I am member of a badminton club and I will soon start playing for the Dutch

Study in The Netherlands
About The Netherlands The Netherlands covers around 41,000 square kilometres, and has a population of around 16 million. With a rich cultural heritage, the country has many famous names in the fields of art, literature, philosophy and science. It also has a long history of international trade, with countries across the world from as early as 1600, bringing together knowledge, skills, business and ideas. The warm welcome we give to the rest of the world has earned us a welldeserved reputation for openness in business.
Special features • Start building your international network by studying with fellow students representing more than 45 nationalities • Gain real-life experience during two internships in international companies
Holland, or The Netherlands the country’s formal name is ‘Nederland’, means the ‘low country’ or the ‘lowlands’. ‘Low’ because much of the land is at or below sea level. Holland is in fact the name of the western part of the country which is the most heavily populated of all the provinces, encompassing Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. However, Holland is also commonly (and mistakenly) used to refer to the Netherlands as a whole, including all 12 provinces that make up the country. The south of the Netherlands is bordered by Belgium and Germany, with the rest of Europe within easy reach by car or the country’s excellent public transport system. Our multinational population presents a rich mix of different cultures, each characterized by the tolerance for which the Dutch are famous. When you study in the south of the country, you will quickly learn that we have so much more to offer than windmills, tulips, cheese and clogs. Of course you should take time to explore those aspects too!

Study in Eindhoven
Eindhoven has a youthful dynamic aura and a warm heart. By population Eindhoven is the fifth largest city in The Netherlands, with over 200,000 residents, and is the largest city in the south of The Netherlands.
Start sep 2015 Melinda Mészáros ‘I have been living in The Netherlands for 2.5 years now. I was born and raised in Hungary, where I started my career in healthcare. Since I would like to pursue a career in this sector in the future, I decided to choose a management programme for my further studies. The international environment in IBMS is truly inspiring. Where else do you find the opportunity to study a subject or work on a project together with students coming from 11 different countries? You learn how other cultures deal with certain issues, what they think about various topics. You widen your horizon, without even being aware of it. I would like to help people learn to look beyond their own personality and environment. By setting up an efficient system, all people can learn, grow and be treated in a fair way. That is what I would like to realize in the healthcare sector in the future. What drives me? Curiosity, listening to each other, showing respect. This will help you grow both on a personal and a professional level.’

The city is a trend-setting centre of design, innovation and technology. The claim that Eindhoven is ‘leading in technology’ is more than just a slogan. Forty per cent of all Dutch spending on research & development takes place in this region. So it’s no surprise that Eindhoven and the surrounding region is officially referred to as ‘Brainport’. But of course there are also cross-border links with the neighbouring countries. Eindhoven is a great town for students, with its dynamic character with a cosy atmosphere, many typical student bars and cafes and a number of interesting museums. These elements and the easy-going southern character of the people help you to feel at home in this town that makes studying a lot more appealing. From Eindhoven it is easy to go to cities such as Amsterdam, The Hague and Maastricht.

Educational system
Ivin Mauricio ‘I graduated from IBMS in 2009. The IBMS programme has a broad scope and students are trained in a wide range of skills. Studying together with students of many different nationalities, improving your language skills, learning to deal with cultural differences have been a great benefit for me during my career. Since Fontys has a large number of partnerships with universities in other countries, I was able to study in South Korea for one semester, which was a unique experience. Furthermore students have the opportunity to gain practical experience during two internships, which may take place abroad as well. I have been working for some time now for Rabobank, Nijmegen. Together with a colleague I manage the portfolio of 160 business relations from small- and medium-sized companies. On a daily basis I am involved in corporate finance as well as marketing strategies. The IBMS programme has provided a solid basis for my current job. On the short term I would like to gain more management experience. On the long term I would like to work for Rabobank in an international environment, possibly even abroad. IBMS has provided me with a basis to realize these ambitions.’

Project-based learning To enable you to develop as a professional, our programme is based on a system of project-based learning. In this system you are able to carry out a number of projects dealing with the different aspects of the international marketing and management practice. In groups of approximately five students, you execute the tasks and assignments connected with the projects. In doing so, you learn to find and study the relevant literature, to look for the required information (desk research) and to execute field research. By working in teams, you learn how to co-operate, how to participate in meetings, to plan activities and to execute them according to plan. You learn to develop your leadership skills and to control the quality of the products and processes involved. In addition to the projects you will be trained in specific skills. Our personal leadership programme focuses on the development of the core skills necessary to succeed in your future profession. International student population As an international business manager you have to work with people from different national backgrounds. Studying our programme means that you will meet the world in Eindhoven. Some 45 different nationalities are represented in our student population, which makes it easy to practise this during your study. You will also start building your international network right from the start of the study. You will have friends for life around the globe! Tutor As a student you will be allocated a personal tutor with whom you will maintain regular contact. He/she is your contact person and will monitor your performance and will help you out when necessary. So, the Dutch education system is interactive and focuses on teamwork, which makes it easy to meet other international students.
