You're a Good Man...

Theater Director Tara Grandberry is enjoying and thriving in her second year at Jarrell High School. She is also extremely proud of her students and their performance in the school's first musical theater production, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown”.

Tara says there were many reasons to choose the classic piece; "It is important to have a friendly production with roles for elementary kids. This helps create program continuity and provides an opportunity for older kids to mentor the younger players." Happily, her choice has demonstrated a great tendency for students to get excited about theater at an early age. As well, she is eager to put on shows that have big meaning behind them and a purpose; “The audience should experience something during the performance that makes their lives better”.

Tara believes the characters are relatable to all age groups. "Though the characters in the play are children, they all struggle with real adult problems," she says. "It allows everyone in the audience to connect with the actors' performances."

Also, with a musical, no one is left out. In addition to the stage performance, there are many backstage needs and moving pieces that provide skills development for students onstage and in the crew. Tara explains, "Costume design, set design, and lighting design are all skills taught to the students during the process of the production along with the acting."

COMING SOON...

Tara has already begun planning the school's next big production; a one-act play called "Decision Height," about the WASPs (Women Air Force Service Pilots) of WW2 who trained on Avenger Field in Sweet Water, Texas. Rehearsals are underway and theater goers can save the date; March 6th at 4pm in the Jarrell High School auditorium.
