Introduction to LED Pole Lights LED Chip LED Driver Optic Lens Heat Sink LED Fixture Housing
Introduction to LED Pole Lights LED pole lights A.K.A security lights are heavy-duty outdoor lighting fixtures. Unlike traditional outdoor lights LED Pole light fixtures last over 5 years. They are reliable and consume little energy in comparison with the non-LED pole light fixtures. LED Pole lights are compatible with a wide range of lighting accessories like dimmers, photocells, and motion sensors. The availability of these lights in various color temperatures allows one to pick between several ‘tones of white’. The color temperature range of LED lights varies from 2500K (Warm-white tone) to 6500K (Daylight-white tone) LED lights are non-toxic, as they do not emit UV or infrared rays. These lights do not use mercury or gases. Also, most parts of an LED fixture are
LED Chip An LED chip is the building block of all kinds of LED lighting fixtures ranging from LED strips to lights bulbs, floodlights, and outdoor pole lights. The chips may contain a single light-emitting diode (LED) or a cluster of many LEDs. The LED chip is a semiconductor that puts out excellent luminous output upon receiving a threshold voltage. A protective coating, which also acts as a primary lens, covers the LEDs on the chip.
LED Driver The driver is responsible for regulating the input voltage (and current) for any LED lighting fixture. On the basis of functionality, there are three kinds of LED drivers: Constant-current Drivers Constant-Voltage Drivers AC LED Drivers On the basis of placement, there are two kinds of LED drivers: Internal Drivers External Drivers
Optic Lens The optic lens is responsible for distributing the light output of an LED fixture. There are two types of lenses in an LED pole light: Primary lens: built on top of the LED chip Secondary lens: helps collect and redistribute the LEDs light. The different materials used for making optical lenses for LED chips and fixtures are: Epoxy: Most common among single-LED lights. Also used for making the LED chip’s covering.
Plastic PMMA (Poly-methyl methacrylate): Also known as acrylic or Plexiglas. It is a low-cost material. Offers high UV transmittance. Provides excellent light transmission. PMMI (Poly meth acryl methyl limed): Similar to PMMA, but offers high softening temperature (about 388°F). It can withstand heavy thermal loads. Polycarbonate (PC): It is scratch-resistant. Allows easy molding. Offers low UV transmission under 400 nm. Most common among lens manufacturers. Zeonex: Combines the properties of glass and plastic. Shows very low water absorption. Offers high molding precision. • Silicone: Offers higher UV stability. offers yellowing stability. Allows making flexible lenses. Offers high-temperature resistance.
Heat Sink The Heat sink is an essential part of an LED light, as it draws the unwanted heat away from the fixture. Aluminum alloy is the most preferable heat sink material, as it offers high heat-conducting properties. In addition to the choice of material, heat sink manufacturers mold it in a way that creates grooves on the surface. The grooves allow better heat dissipation. An ideal heat sink’s job is to keep the LED cool to prevent failure during long hours of continuous use.
LED Fixture Housing LED pole lights (and other LED fixtures) need all of the previously mentioned components. In many of the LED lights, heat sink and secondary lens can function as the housing (such as LED light bulbs).
