Summer of abundance
When I think of the summer season, I think of abundance everywhere I look. There is an abundance of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables (can't wait to bite into tomato sandwiches!). There is an abundance of daylight that allows us to play into the gorgeous Lake Murray sunsets. There is an abundance of uninterrupted family time as kids enjoy time away from school. And, there is an abundance of amazing local businesses that make our city a special place to call home.
I am excited to welcome you to our Open Kitchen issue of Fig Columbia and for you to hear from local farmers across the Midlands who are working hard and cultivating produce that nourishes our bodies and our community. Turn the pages to discover how to support our local restaurants, and meet our Fig Authentic, one of my friends, Beach Loveland, who has spent the last decade serving locally roasted and sustainably sourced coffee through Loveland Coffee. We have a vibrant, national award-winning restaurant scene that is waiting for you this summer. Venture out and try a new-to-you restaurant; schedule a weekly date with a friend to catch up over drinks; order your favorite appetizers and meals to-go when you're headed out of town on vacation; linger longer at the table as you enjoy dessert after your meal. No matter how you choose to celebrate our local restaurant scene, now's the perfect time of year to show these businesses how much you love them!
As your calendars fill up with activities, parties, and adventures, make sure to stop by and shop with the small businesses in this issue. They have sourced all that you need to make your summer the most memorable one yet! Fabulous fashion, poolside accessories, eBikes and luxury vehicles that will get you everywhere you want to go, planners and caterers to help you put together the best summer soirées, and so much more. Columbia is bursting at the seams with businesses and entrepreneurs to make summer extra sweet and enjoyable.
There is so much to look forward to in regard to the summer season here in Columbia. Go out and find an abundance of things that fill your cup!
Warmly, BRYNLEY FARR
