How LED Lighting Solutions Can Help Protect the Environment

One of the primary concerns in the 21st century for individuals and corporations is energy efficiency. Over time, people are finally coming to realize that the more energy is wasted, the more money is misspent. If one considers the high number of automobile manufacturers who now offer hybrid and electric car for sale, it becomes apparent that energy efficiency is on the mind of the average consumer now more than ever.

However, there is another crucial reason that so much attention is being given to energy awareness. Individuals and businesses are becoming more aware of the long-term environmental impact of energy resources, and, as a result, people are partnering with innovative technology firms to fully utilize the many environmentally friendly lighting sources available today. For example, environmentally sound LED lighting solutions are becoming a standard within the industry, being used everywhere from military installations and large commercial facilities, to small businesses and new homes.

LED lighting differs from traditional incandescent lighting in a number of ways, one way being that it uses less energy to light an area than incandescent lighting. Up to 90 percent of the energy used to light a traditional bulb is wasted on the heat that it generates, which further squander financial and environmental resources along the way.

Conversely, LED lighting that has been recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Energy or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is required by law to use 75 percent less energy than an incandescent light, and must also last 15 to 25 times longer. Over the long run it will save more money on energy bills by utilizing a larger portion of the energy expended, and reduce excess at the same time.

While homeowners, business owners, and any other entity that employs environmentally conscious LED lighting should appreciate the cost savings that will ensue, it is estimated that, collectively, the United States could save over $200 billion a year by switching from the outmoded incandescent lighting to LED lighting.

In addition, it is estimated that with the simple act of lighting, the world uses up to 20 percent of its electricity. With a switch to LED lighting, estimates reveal that it is possible for that number to drop to 4 percent. A drop in the rate of electricity use would further eliminate the need to build new power plants to handle the world's growing electricity needs. LED lighting has been determined by the Department of Energy as being more economically friendly than the old-style incandescent lighting. Using LED lighting will not only have a positive impact on one's finances, but on the health of the planet as well.
