ONE SHEET TABLE FURNITURE DESIGN

This table consists of a single sheet out of stiff material. The initial shape is a square, which is cut into several parts: the central circle and the outer edges which support the table. The special feature of this table is that the legs create an arch recalling the characteristic ribs of the typical Gothic cathedrals. The size of the initial sheet and the advantage to realize the table in recyclable materials, like cardboard, allow it to be used in temporary installations as well.

The seat is made by combining differently shaped pieces of wood, which generate an ergonomic design. The sections are placed vertically and keep greater resistance, to ensure the stability of the chaise lounge. Metal bars are keeping the parts together.

FI-BOX WINDOW SHOWING FLORENCE 2011

On the one hand, a shop window is a place which presents a product, but on the other hand the product shows itself. Florence becomes the object shown, that is seen by the eyes of those who have lived it, studied it, imagined it or dreamed it. The purpose is to create a continuing show through the streets of Florence. The element can be placed in every part of the showcase and it can be moved anytime.

Starting from the concept of diorama an overview of the most distinctive landmarks of Florence is created. These elements have been shaped out of cardboard profiles and inserted in a box, of the same material.


IL LIMITE UNIVERSITY COMPETITION 2010

COMPETITION

At least once we have all wanted to escape to a safe place, for dream without dealing with worries or problems. The project tries to recreate this ideal place that, on the base of a 6x6x6 m cube, has taken the form of a container entirely made by concrete. The created space has been designed with special regard to the light and how it can penetrate into the interior, creating a play of shadows. Natural light enters directly, from a cut on the roof and, indirectly, from the entrance. This is like a filter, combining, and at the same time separating, the outside from the inside. That is implemented by a staircase that breaks the facade, with a recess which reduces gradually, allowing to admire the outside before getting lost in a timeless space, safe from the rest of the world.

The project area is on the Livorno coast, near the Tower of Calafuria, an ancient seat of sighting.

TECU速 ARCHITECTURE AWARD 2010

The project, located in a highly degraded area of Livorno, intends to give a new centrality to the district by creating a meeting place for its inhabitants. The ground floor is characterized by two distinct blocks, library entrance and auditorium, acting as a support for the upper floors and creating a crosswalk that connects Garibaldi Square to the main street. The upper floors are characterized by curtain walls, those are covered with a wire mesh which acts as a solar shading, providing natural light during the whole day. The texture of the coating appears stretched towards the openings, as the building would want to connect to the square and the main street.

FLORENCE BRIDGE UNIVERSITY OF FLORENCE 2011

Design of a new bridge for Florence, which associates with public activities, indoor market and exhibition area. The project concept is based on the open spaces between the medieval buildings of the city with the historical towers and the great XIX century roads, which inspire the axis of the new bridge. The indoor market is located on one side, developed in a basement and highlighted by lightwells made of opaque glass. The other side is characterized by the vertical exhibition space, in connection with the towers of the old town.

The project area is currently occupied by a parking lot, next to the historical city walls and to the medieval gate, which is the access to the San Gimignano’s city center. On the other side the view opens up to the Tuscany countryside. For the importance of the location it was decided to design the new town hall. When the point of view of the observer is directed from the countryside to the city, the new building looks like a tower, tall and slender. It develops lengthwise, giving the chance to look toward the center of the medieval by the openings in the facade that cross it entirely.

PROJECT VIEW AND PLAN


SCHOOL BUILDING UNIVERSITY OF FLORENCE 2008

The project involves the redevelopment of an old industrial building in the city of Prato. The new building is a school for musicians and is composed by a library, an auditorium and student residences. Classrooms and auditorium are in the main building, next to the old factory; the latter is converted into a library and practice rooms. In an annex building, perpendicular to the school, is the residence of the students and a canteen. The faรงades of the buildings are marked by a structural grid and large glazed surfaces, shielded by movable solar shadings; that make the configuration of the faรงade change every hour of the day.

WINDY HILL THE EARLY SOLAR HOUSE IN TUSCANY

The book reconstructs the story of a small, but interesting, project by the architect Pier Luigi Spadolini. Unpublished documents propose a new reading by the technology that reveals some surprising connections. The research design is conducted and driven by a path that crosses the history of a major industrial company, in the tuscany territory, which is now multinational. In this context, the project’s strong focus on the environment might define it as an early solar energy retrofit project 25 years later.

GREAT Green Real Estate@Airport Terminal 2012

“GREAT – Green Real Estate by the Airport Terminal” is a study for a new concept for infrastructure design seen as a Green Metropolitan Area. Airports today are much more than aviation infrastructures. They are multimodal, multifunctional urbanised areas generating a very attractive business development within and beyond their boundaries. Many urban functions of a modern metropolitan centre are located in the surrounding of the major airport sites transforming them from “city airports” to “airport cities” or Aerotropolis. This case study is applied to the “Raffaello Sanzio� Ancona/Falconara airport as an example that can be generalised to other European regional airports. It explores the opportunity for the managing authority and for governmental institutions, to use the Airport settlement at the base of the land planning, everything will be governed by the concepts of sustainability expressed by the Green Real Estate and LEED certification.

FLUVIAL PARK

The project proposal is about the river park next to the airport area. In this context it was decided to integrate the function of public green with facilities for the production of energy from natural sources. One of these is through the Photobioreactor System. A bioreactor is an installation for the production of microorganisms outside their natural but inside an artificial environment. The prefix “photo” particularly describes the bio-reactor’s property to cultivate phototrophic microorganisms, or organisms which grow by utilizing light energy. These organisms use the process of photosynthesis to build their own biomass from light and CO2. Key objective of a photobioreactor, or PBR, is the controlled supply of specific environmental conditions for respective species. Thus, a photobioreactor allows much higher growth rates and purity levels than anywhere in natural or habitats similar to nature. Basically, photobioreactors can grow phototropic biomass even from nutrient polluted waste water and from flue gas carbon dioxide.

EXISTING OIL REFINERY

OIL REFINERY The area currently occupied by Api refinery will be converted in a green area, recovering the existing facilities for the installation of a Photobioreactor System and a SWAC complex (SeaWater Air Conditioning). This system uses cold deep water from the sea to cool buildings, neighborhoods and entire cities. On a multi-megawatt scale, it takes comparatively little energy to bring such cold water to the shoreline, where it passes through a titanium heat exchanger to cool a closedloop chilled fresh water cooling system.
