HELLO!
FILIPPO GEMMI
I’m Filippo Gemmi, I’m a graduate in Architecture Construction City at Politecnico di Torino. Before beginning my studies I worked in a topography study, here I learnt how to work in the professional, and that helped giving me a good work method and a high precision in the drawings. I started my university career at the University of Parma, where I have graduated in Science of the Architecture in 2014. During these years I became interested in the reuse of the abandoned architecture, mainly industrial sites, and the urban planning. I had the university internship at the firm Arkpabi in Cremona, where I participated from the concept phase to the detail phase. After my bachelor degree I decided to move from Parma to Torino, because I wanted to change the university scene. I finisched in october 2017 with a thesis by the name “RE LEARNING Urban Manufacturing Detroit”, about the adaptive reuse for production purpose in Detroit, where I spent three months, guest at the Lawrence Technological University. Over the years of university I have learnt and improved the use of vector graphics software, graphic design, 3D modellation, and in the future I want to getting close and improve my knowledge of the Bim programs, that I approached during a class in the master program. I like a lot doing architectural models, and I have a good handicraft work to do it. My curiosity and motivation leads me to know, to learn and to engage as much as possible. I am an independent person who handles the job well but I prefer to work in teams, because the knowledge excange is the key to the higher quality of the work. Thanks for viewing my material and consider my application. Filippo Gemmi

RE LEARNING Urban Manufacturing Detroit The thesis is part of the wider topic of the re-industrialization of the post-industrial cities in the USA. In these cities there is a movement of light urban manufacturing, which thanks to encouragement policies and new technologies, is trying to fit in the urban spaces, very often using the abandoned buildings in the urban fabric, which they turn from problems into opportunities. After a first part of research on the value of the adaptive reuse for the return of the urban manifacturing in the city of Detroit, there is a part of the long and exiting history of the city. The second part is focuses on the project of a vertical urban factory in the Corktown neighborhood. The project is developped in an old post office built in the 1930, the new project host a maker school to help the school public system, two floors of creative spaces and icubator, the basement is house of the heavy production anche the loading & unloading dock. On the roof there are 15 patio houses that help the economy of the building. The project is insert in a new masterplan that connected the two parts of the neighborhood, divided by the railway.

MADE WITH CARDBOARD Our project answers the question of designing a temporary shop in the center of Turin. The choice of the theme of the temporary store was free and we have selected the furniture in cardboard, which has a design with very simple lines and rational, it is easy to assemble and is 100% recyclable. The elements that make up the installation, are developed from the basic shape of the box. This has been declined in various exhibition types in order to make the path within the diverse shows. The internal layout is very constrained by the planimetric development, therefore it was decided to enter the ground floor and on the mezzanine information elements that introduce the first floor. Here the environment opens in two directions which correspond to two areas. The left environment is defined by more ordered and linear forms, while the right by elements arranged more freely.

VUOTI CONDIVISI In parallel to the municipality of Turin, in the laboratory, we have designed in the ex Fiat Avio’s area the new master plan for the future Health City. The master plan must include the hospital for the excellence of the city, the faculty of medicine, temporary residences, and also provide a link that exceeds the railway which serves as a new railway station. The second phase of the design was focused on a skyscraper, that is must be related with the whole master plan. The tower has the distinction of being predominantly opaque with a “city” language and with empties that recall the courtyard of the master plan. The structural part we went to the aid for the construction of these “vertical courtyards” using the outrigger that allow you to hang the plans over holes. The project was selected as one of the three best of the course and published on the website of La Repubblica Turin

DIY IN BRUXELLES The Tour & Taxis site, in the Brussels Capital Region, is an abandoned area since the mid-twentieth century. Our task was to draw up a master plan of a portion of the area, between the fabric of the city and the existing buildings on the site. In the master plan we were developed three types of buildings, the first called “Solid” is the type with longer life expectancy, about 200 years, which involves a division of interior spaces flexible and easily modifiable. The second “Block0”, life expectancy 50 years, are types of housing for groups of families that are being developed in the Netherlands. The homes “Light” positioned under the Gare Maretime, a former railway goods yard, are a type of weight houses prefabricated in wood and dry assembly. We also developed the physical and economic part of the three types. For the physical intake were created different scenarios weaving multiple packets walls, window frames with different performance. From the results was chosen the optimal scenario in terms of performance, cost, savings in time and expense of re-entry. For the economic part it has been prepared an analysis revenues costs and a sales plan for all three types.

BUILD HIGH-ALTITUDE The project involves the expansion and the renovation of the Emilio Questa refuge located in the Alpi Marittime park in the high Gesso Valley at 2,388 m altitude. The intervention aims to the maintenance and enhancement of the existing structure, placing them a new extension. This combination has, as its main guideline, the interpenetration of volumes, highlighted by the existing structure wall that penetrates inside the new wing. The shape of the new extension is associated with an optical tube that wants to enhance the two main views, one on the lake and one of the valley. The new extension to the frame structure includes walls with insulation and coating made of corten, floors and beams made of X-Lam laminated wood, positioned on a slab foundation incorporating a basement floor occupied by the private room of the shelter manager. The project was published in the online magazine “Cantieri d’Alta Quota” n. 5 (p.13).
