ALTER IT!
VELUX HOUSE AWARD COMPETITION collaboration: LukĂĄĹĄ Vrzgula ADVANCED TO THE INTERNATIONAL ROUND Alter it! There is no reason for not to do so. What makes people dominant class on Earth is the ability to adapt to diverse conditions throughout the time. We are no longer people living in tents, capable of changing scenery whenever is needed due to society, weather or livelihood difficulty. Our dwelling lives with us! Design comes up with an option to adjust to the family who lives in the house during lifetime and maximally using current materials such as foundation and bearing walls for further usage at the same time. Change it after twenty years, when the scenery changes. Clever and practical use of space was our stimulus during desing. At first, family time axis was a main key. We considered stages on the axis after a lapse of twenty years and placed quoted family situation in the particural point. Main couple will raise, have children, children will grow, move away (for college years etc..) and eventually move back, when they find out living in Vienna (in that case) too expensive. Couple ages, family relation changes and new solution and necessary take place. Every period has different demands. Young couple stays active, four members family needs vast space offering variability but sort of privacy at the same time. Older couple demands embracing shorter walking distances, stair absence and overally little space to live. The rest of the space is utilized as student flats, basement is used for part time job possibility such as cycling service or sauna. Our solution gives owner option to purchase the house, consider where his place on the axis is and adjust space to his own needs according to floorplan diversity. Owner can combine three variants of basement, first floor and attic after taking his situation into account. The main reason for sustainability dwells in keeping bearing walls standing as much as possible (which reduces building expense) only changes will lie in door opening between spaces. Sufficient lighting and air condition is taken into account as well. We hope our design would embrace of new ideas leading to heading living solution forward.

MINIKINDERGARTEN ROW HOUSING Brno
Decline of natality in the Czech republic between 1995-2000 caused many kindergarten to be closed and sold. But when the strong class of 71´-80´ started to setting up families, the lack of capacities in the kindergartens were alarmingly low. In 2014, amendment of the law came into force, changing the possibilites of children care. Mothers on the maternity leave get a possibiiity to take care of another 3-4 children in max time of 6 hours a day, if her facility is suitable. The family row house placed in a calm quarter of Brno is designed for living of four member family with east and west view. Core of the house in the ground flooor designed for community child care. Playground is lowered down to firstly, giving children their own space to breath and play, secondly, giving a teacher/mother possibility of surveillance from almost everywhere around the floor. Playground is continues to the garden, separated only by the wide window. Fluid solution of spaces should minimize narrow conception of the plot.
OPATOVICE
URBANISTIC VISION OF THE VILLAGE Supervision: prof.Ing.arch Ivan Ruller
The village is located on south Moravia, 30 km apart from Brno. Due to historical process, compact village centre basically does not exist. Abbey admistration lost governing in the late 1890s´. Current situation is bleak. Village square almost does not exist. Functional concentration is laying on axis church-school-firehouse. Local authority is located on the outskirts of the village as row house without any sign of significance. The pub, epicentre of affairs, usually considered as a standart and main part of village facility, si close to be shouted down. Mayor´s wish was to receive particular intervention, improving village social life. I found the much more thorough and therefore I focused on complete urban plan of the village, trying to tie functions together in compact centre, revitalize village square and cut the transportaion through the village down, putting emphasis on commnunity life.

RUSAVA
EVANGELIC SCHOOL RECONSTRUCTION Rusava village is located in Zlin district. After previous owner died, descendants sold house to the village, while mayor is the keykeeper and subsequent contracting authority. School is located in the protected area, still, building alone is not protected. House lays almost at the end of the village, alongside the church and the streaming brook. Construction condition is the big issue. Water is moved by capillary action, making most of the walls completely mildewed. Most of the construction is dated back 1840´s. Suprisingly, roof frame is really well-preserved and rigid, without any sign of woodborere activity. Design is completely focused on offering public spaces for villagers, as well as for the visitors. Public events such as fests, concerts, expositions will be moved from village office to newly opened space at the school. On the first floor, historically accurate exhibition of evangelic children class will take a place. The rest of the floor will serve as facility for outside events, including toilets, refreshement and changing room. Garden will be halfly closed from the street, giving a possibility to change a character events held. On the second floor, new attic apartment will be build, serving as living for a potential house keeper.
U KAPLIČKY 11 ROUSÍNOV FAMILY HOUSE STUDY collaboration: Jakub Hanžl Design of the family house in Rousinov is a reconstruction of two objects, original farm buildings with living spaces. One of the objects includes garrage and joiner´s cabinet. The second one is the family house. Character of idea is derivated from original position of houses, respecting height of surrounding building, as well as simplicity a calmness of little town. The main goal was to create nice, sunny spaces with view to northly situated lenghty garden and southly situated atrium. According to the discussion and expressed wishes from the client, house located house includes two spacious garages and large joiner´s cabinet. Therefore the craft (family inheritage) and workflow can be seen from the street. The heart and soul of garden oriented house with spacious dining room, living room and reading room whose wide windows give client stunning view to calm garden, overflowing with trees.
REBEĹ OVICE EXTENSION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF FAMILY HOUSE FOR DISABLED MEMBER
The house is the part of row housing satellite town and takes a part in the on the south from Brno, RebeĹĄovice. Client assignment was to create extended space for his family members, especially suitable for disabled member who is using wheelchair on daily basis. Design confesses adding of the new mass to existing object, dividing it with different material aproach and change of roofing. On the first floor, spacious living room was created with terrace heading to the garden. For confort facing of all obstacles, elevator shaft in the interior was created and enterance to the terrace is possible by wheelchair ramp, coping the the terrace edge. Second floor gives users nice view to the south and east a two new rooms, serving as two separate bedrooms. Threshold is barrier-edge. My part in the project was to create visuals and draw complete documentation for planning permit.

CLUSTERING GRASSHOPPER FOR RHINO consulting: Martin Kaftan Derived function created in grasshopper was primarily suited for atelier work. Our primar task was to create modular construction from wooden plies. The modul creation alone was a tricky part, although the worst the question, if there is a possibility to copy around that particular modul without hours of manual copy and paste. This function is capable of that. In the defined area can precisely fill space with modular cubes and then work with them further. That means scaling those cubes(bounding boxes) as much as your hardware can handle. Those bounding boxes are capable of “locking random shape in them, therefore, bounding box becomes only subtitutive shape.

Kateřina Bušová, Jarmila Fučíková, Petra Kovaříková, Anna Severová, Kristýna Uhrová, Filip Vítek, Lukáš Vrzgula Chief: MSc. B.Arch. Martin Kaftan, Ph.D. Colective project according to the design of Petra Kovarikova. The whole process, from design selection(every student of our workgroup created one project), over discussion, consultation and realization lasted over 7 weeks. The shape of the construction was parametricaly created in the plugin for rhinoceros - Grasshopper, which gives us wide variaty of shapes we could test. The real difficulty resides with increasing requirements on the construction, statics properties, aestetics and inexperience with manufacturing and technology throghout the timelapse. All the obstacles were needed to be overcomed. Many discussion, where sitting with concept, were harsh, complicated in terms of communication, refining and polishing opinions and definitely took its toll tiredness. Final completation at the square was all about keeping your bodyparts warm. Working conditions in -9C are not ideal, as far as we needed to work with screwers and bolts all days long. Therefore shotout to my colleagues, who made this possible.

ROCKING CHAIR WOODEN CONSTRUCTION Consultation: Master Miroslav Nováček Miroslav Ventruba ,,Architects, sculptors, painters – we all must return to craftsmanship! For there is no such thing as 'art by profession'. There is no essential difference between the artist and the artisan. The artist is an exalted artisan. Merciful heaven, in rare moments of illumination beyond man’s will, may allow art to blossom from the work of his hand, but the foundations of proficiency are indispensable to every artist. This is the original source of creative design.” Bauhaus manifest - April 1919
