SAY NO TO F I LT E R S Photography by Larissa Jaks
A little about Larissa: “My name is Larissa Jaks. I’m 21 & currently avoiding success in Newport Beach, CA. I’m an artist/photographer and find most of my inspiration in nature and natural moments. I think of my photography as a collection of imperfections. Essentially, my photography is based on the idea that photos don’t really need to be drastically altered in order to be beautiful. I think there’s beauty everywhere and that things are great the way they are. I hope to show that in the work I create no matter what format it may be. Very stoked to be sharing these pages with other rad artists, I hope you enjoy my photos. You can find me on Instagram @saynotofilters.”

allows you to layer different shapes and effects which really makes the outcome of each photo unique to the user. It’s easy for anyone to appreciate the variety of choices you have when editing with Ultrapop. So ditch the monotonous tones and give color a try. If you’re a color junky like me & you don’t have Ultrapop, you’re missing out. It’s free in the app store now, so get your hands on it ASAP!
I have to say, I’ve recently found myself getting extremely bored of scrolling through endless amounts of Instagram pictures that are all edited with the same few apps. (VSCO Cam, Afterlight, you know what I’m talking about.) The constantly repeated muted & neutral tones that everyone seems to love have quite frankly become nauseating to me. Vibrant and exciting, the UltraPop app provides the best psychedelic photo editing around. The app has a refreshing amount of options in terms of filters, and
COASTER RECORDS
Coaster Records Compilation Tape Vol.1
Review written by Gyovanni Pellicone Coaster Records Compilation Tape Vol. 1 is the full-length album from Netherlands’ independent record label, Coaster Records. The album consists of 10 songs produced by some of the finest underground artists within the Dutch music scene. Ranging from Dutch indie to lo-fi to jangly pop genres, the album really presents a nice balance for all types of listeners. The album kicks off with a track by Mountain States called City. From the start it’s clear that the listener is in for your traditional sounding Indie song. With beachy guitar tones supported by upbeat drumming “City” makes for a very poppy yet stylish take on the Indie format. Track 2, Symbiotic Dream by Floris Bates follows “City” with a very different texture. The enhanced vocals are very relaxing and present a sense of warmth to the listener. Clearly belonging to the lo-fi category, the song is much more soothing and laid back reminiscent of psychedelic tunes from the 70s. Another great lo-fi song presented in this compilation album is track number 5, Away by Torri. This song is basically a paradise for the mind, leaving the listener with thoughts of empty beaches below starry skies. The vocals are truly silky and seem as if they could be cut with the slightest of tension. Soft drumming and gentle guitar sounds are what make “Away” one of the stronger tracks off this album. The last song on the album is Nancy Acid’s “Hound Dog” consisting of pounding drums, distorted guitar, and fuzzy vocals. It’s definitely one of the more powerful tracks off Coaster Records Compilation Tape Vol. 1 and packs a punch for any listener. The song’s gravelly and graphic sound is very similar to that of classic punk rock, yet still carries common traits of beachy indie vibes. Coaster Records Compilation Tape Vol. 1 makes for a very promising and inspirational effort for future artists. It manages to create a perfect collection for anyone trying to hitch a ride into the underground scene of the Netherlands. Give it a listen and see how long it takes to become hooked.

A NOTE FROM FILTH’S FOUNDER AND EDITOR IN CHIEF
I just want to say thank-you to all who contributed to the first issue of Filth. Running this mag completely on my own has been a challenge for me mentally (and financially) but being able to work with such amazing creators has made it a hell of an awesome time. The concept for the magazine came about at a particularly rough time in my life. Being able to evolve with the mag and pull myself out of the funk I was in enabled me to grow as a person. I’m eternally grateful to have had that experience. That being said, I hope you value the pages of this mag as much as I do. I hope it inspires you to go out & do whatever you want to do. The only thing stopping you is yourself. Best of luck, Sami
