CLEEVE HOUSE
Cleeve House stands proudly in an elevated position in the picturesque village of Figheldean on Salisbury Plain. The setup here is truly unique. The original house was built in 1872 and retains a huge number of beautiful original features across 3 floors. A later addition provides a vast 6-bedroom annexe which can function independently or as part of the main house. The current owners run a thriving holiday let business, providing a valuable revenue stream, but the space could be used for multi-generational living, or adapted for a wide variety of purposes.
KEY FEATURES
Ground Floor:
On entering Cleeve House, it’s clear you are in a very special home. A vestibule leads through to a beautiful entrance hall, with an original tiled floor, fireplace and feature wooden staircase. There are a whole host of wonderful features across the ground floor with high ceilings, original beams and fireplaces in addition to delightful bay windows with window seats. There’s a truly flexible layout here, and many of the rooms could be interchangeable with a reception room, dining room and separate playroom. The spacious kitchen with a vaulted ceiling offers the ideal place for the whole family to gather and leads out to the rear garden, where there is ample space for al fresco dining. This beautiful kitchen is complimented by a generous utility room and separate boot room with WC – something a large family group will really appreciate, and even your very own wine cellar!
First Floor:
4 generous double bedrooms occupy the first floor, two of which are ensuite, with the other two sharing a large family bathroom which has been recently upgraded.
Second floor:
A further double bedroom and study sit at the top of the house offering perfect spaces for working from home.
Annexe:
The 6 double bedroom ground floor annexe comes complete with own sitting room and kitchen, generous bathroom and WCs plus store. It can be accessed via the dining room in the main house, or independently by its own entrance. An excellent opportunity for rental income from long lets or holiday lets, multi-generational living or remodelling as an extension to the ground floor accommodation of the main house.
SELLER INSIGHT
What is your favourite room of the house and why?
Kate loves the family bathroom and her oversized bath, which she designed for long soaks with candles and a G&T. Chris’ favourite room is the kitchen as it is such a fantastic entertaining space, especially in the summer when the bi-fold doors can be fully opened.
Who do you think would be the next ideal owner?
It really could be anyone as Cleeve House is all about possibilities – it can do it all. So, someone that likes character, space, entertaining and family.
What do you love most about the house and why?
Its flexibility and space. We have never once struggled to do something we wanted here and there is so much potential.
What do you love about the local community?
Figheldean is one of the most welcoming and charming villages we have ever seen. Everyone is so friendly and supportive and there is a fantastic sense of community, the epi-centre of which is the working club, which is a must-join.
How easy is it to commute from here?
The house is almost perfectly positioned as you have almost immediate access to the A303, London is accessible from either Grateley (into Waterloo) and Pewsey (into Paddington). Chris commutes 3-4 times a week from Grateley. Local centres are all in easy reach too with Salisbury, Swindon, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Southampton all reachable in under 60 minutes.
What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?
There is literally nothing like Cleeve House and if we could pick it up and take it with us to Sussex to be closer to our family, we would. We chose it because of the space, character, family feel and location but have found more and more that we love about this house in the time we have lived in it.
